did you open a return item case with the reason 'wrong item sent'?

Ebay would never make a buyer pay for return shipping if they specify "wrong item sent" in the Ebay Return Request.
When you filed the Return Request, the seller should have approved the request and sent you a prepaid shipping label. If they did not do that, you could have gone back to your Return Request details and had Ebay step in to help you.
Why didn't this happen??

@2011dmstumpgrinding You have purchased an item on a platform that offers a money back guarantee, so you have nothing to worry about and do not need to pay return shipping. Just follow the procedures for a return. Go to your purchase history and select the item. Mark it as item not as described, which is the option you need to select, and it's the wrong item so it's correct. You only get one chance at opening a return case so take your time and choose this option. Seller will have to send you a return label and then all you have to do is print the return label and ship it back before the time period ends. Very simple and you will receive a full refund. Best of luck to you....

It should also be noted that when you are refunded through the Money Back Guarantee the full amount you paid is refunded, including the original shipping cost you paid.

If you open the right kind of case, the seller would pay the return shipping.
What did you choose as the reason for the return?

Yes on the phone with them

Why on the phone? Ebay is a self serve site, just open a not as described case.

eBay has a thirty day money back guarantee-you should read it. They would have made the seller pay if they sent the wrong item and then you wouldn't be here angry.

If you found this phone number online, you're talking to a SCAMMER.
Do NOT, repeat do NOT give them any money.
Ebay discontinued incoming phone calls over two years ago. You have to use the live chat or request a call back using the help pages found here on Ebay.

The only time you may have to pay to return an item is if the seller is located outside of the country. They cannot purchase return shipping labels. However, if you ship the item back with tracking, you can upload a photo or scan of the shipping receipt to the not as described dispute, type in the tracking number as well. and you will be refunded the item price, original shipping cost and the return cost when tracking shows delivered.
If the reason for the return is because of buyer's remorse then you have to pay the return shipping, in order to get a refund.
