File not as described  cases before 30 days and then the seller is not rewarded.

Pay with PayPal so you have 180 days to dispute a a charge.

Stop buying from China, The Counterfeit Capital of the World.

It's up to you to know what you are buying if it is genuine or not. Do not buy parts without clear photos of the item. Use common sense. I have never gotten fraudulent parts.

People come here looking for a "deal", find it, then realize that it was not the "deal" they had hoped.

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

@supfr7242-swwjmc,

First off you have to realize eBay has not sold you anything, you buy from individual sellers who list items on this site.  Because there are millions of part listed on ebay they cannot possibly vet each listing for authenticity, fitment, quality etc..  You as a buyer have to check the info ebay provides to decide if you want to buy from a seller.

On a listing page if an item is listed as OEM or with a recognizable brand name, look at the photos to see if the Mfr.'s  or brand's name is shown. Then look at the item specifics to see if the corresponding Mfr. or brand's name is shown next to the Brand. If you see N/A, another name, or the space isn't filled in, hit the back button.

Always check a seller's feedback profile page no matter how high their percentage is or if they are Top Rated. On that page if they have received negative or neutral feedback, click on those numbers to read only those comments. Look for quality issues, fitment, slow shipping, missing parts/pieces... comments.

If the seller is registered in China, don't buy from them. Even though some parts are made in China for a  Mfr. or a brand, they are not allowed to sell them, outside of China.  If a seller uses U.S. flag symbols and/or mentions being a U.S. seller, odds are high that they buy parts or drop ship from chinese suppliers.

Top Rated  is one of eBay's most reputable sellers. Consistently delivers outstanding customer service.

Do you need to know more information?

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

The seller uses the word "Genuine" in every listing with this as an example of the spark plugs I bought "Set of 4 Genuine OEM ACD GM 41-108 Iridium Spark Plug Kit for Buick Chevy GMC" I can fill up this whole box with counterfeit top rated Ebay sellers if you would like me to do that so you tell me who is to blame.

In 12 months this seller has 232 positive, 3 neutral, 1 negative.

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

I am not defending this seller, but 2 of those 3 neutral ratings were Delivery Related.......(USPS, FedX UPS...whatever) not product related.....and the third one makes no sense for being neutral...

so, those 232 other buyers are all being scammed? and are posting positive feedback to show their displeasure?

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

No doubt but I disagree about "no other place coming close" because Amazon and Walmart are just as bad, they too have sellers who promote counterfeit garbage and it's not just auto parts... There are buyers however who will buy that stuff, granted the sellers shouldn't be using words such as OEM and Genuine in their listings but buyers should also use due diligence when purchasing.

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

This issue has been ongoing for over a decade

3 automotive parts suppliers charged with selling counterfeit replacement parts | ICE

I always look at pricing- there are sellers with OVER 3,000,000 feedback selling them for $70+' and a couple others with 5 digit feedback selling for $60+ $80+ so when I see 3 sellers with less than 500 feedback selling for $22- I would then 'research' a bit further.

But, yes, this place, CL, OU, AZ, Wlmrt you name it- is the places for thieves to sell junk.

YOU, the Buyer- need to look- took all of 20 seconds to 'see the scammers' (feedback & price)

Rock Auto- $7 each ($28 for 4- fake??)

Autozone (per google ($11 each- $44 for 4, fake??)

The item I bought has a few clear photos. You haven't bought enough parts then.

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

Yes, all scammed. Some of the best counterfeit spark plugs I've seen yet. Packaging was also spot on. Depending on how many miles the driver puts on their vehicle, they'll last past the 30 day return window to get a refund. These lasted about 4,000 miles without issue for this particular example but once I removed them it was very obvious that there was no iridium tip from the beginning. It sure looked like it did before install though. As far as the reviews, that's out of my league.

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

Thanks for that scenario....

makes sense the way it is framed there....

my question would be, then, would a certified, highly trained specialist/mechanic spot the fake BEFORE installing, or are we headed to authenticity guarantees for auto parts?

That being said, how in the world can ANY platform police their 3rd party listings? Certainly ebay is not the ONLY platform for these counterfeits..

Re: Counterfeit Automotive Parts

I can find thousands of counterfeit parts on ebay right now without any effort and know not to buy them however this one fooled me quite well due to the description and what appear to be a few live photos along with OEM and Genuine which is a pretty clear violation. Amazon has never fought me on refunds at all once I receive a counterfeit and actually seem like they care from my history with them. Another thing about Amazon is they list items but don't hide the fact it's not genuine once you read the description if we're strictly talking about automotive parts which is what this is about. I have no opinion on Walmart since I don't buy a lot from them.
