Akoya Black Pearls..natural black or dyed?

Are Akoya black pearls naturally black? or are most or all of them dyed black? I know Tahitian pearls are natural black/gray/silver, and I think freshwater pearls are, but not sure about Akoya pearls.  Any info. would be appreciated.  Also, if the pearls are near round or round, do they command a higher price?

Can you post a picture of them? The do dye them, but most Akoyas I have seen are white.

Can't be sure but they look like they are dyed to me. The luster and color just isn't there for natural colored black pearls.

I've had black pearls before, and they are usually a dark charcole black or peacock hues.  The seller claims these are natural black pearls and not dyed.  He has them for a great price though.. What would a strand of near round or round pearls like this go for in a jewelry store or somewhere other than Ebay?

Ask the seller if they have a lab report verifying that the color of the pearls is NATURAL .  Also, if the pearls are very uniform in color, that may be a giveaway that they are dyed.  Is the seller in China by any chance?

Akoya Cultured Pearls

Prized for their brilliant luster and rich color, Akoya pearls are a traditional symbol of elegance and beauty. Produced by Japan's Akoya oysters, they are the most popular of all pearl types. Depending on the size of the mother oyster, they grow from 3-10mm. Colors range from white, cream and pink to light green, blue and silver.

The seller is here in the US and has good feedback.  The color looks uniform to me.  Even the dyed ones with great luster and shine to them can go for a right high price from what I've seen on here. Are Akoya pearls saltwarter or freshwater? I know that makes a difference in price too.

Akoya pearls are simply produced by the Japanese Akoya oyster.  In the 1950's, cultured pearls meant Japanese "Akoya" pearls.

Saltwater cultured pearls command higher prices since the costs and risks involved in producing the saltwater pearl is much greater.

The difference is, this seller, the OP, came here and asked our opinion and that is what I gave. That is different than you posting another seller's listed item and caiming it to be something different than what they had it listed as without any proof.

I am done, you still don't get it. This is the OP's post, this is not the place to be rehashing the other post on the fine jewelry board.

;I visited the Na Hoku jewelry stores in San Francisco and Las Vegas.  I picked some oysters from a tank and they opened them 9I had coupons and got the pearls for free, you could buy the settings.)  I managed to pick one silver pearl out from the oyster lots, had it set in sterling.  The saleswoman said the silvers are rarer, only 7 out of 100 are silver.  I asked her what the type of pearls were in the oysters, she said they are all akoyas.  I will post a picture on weekend bling or eye candy Wednesday soon.  I have been uber busy at work.  I also got a black Tahitian 14k yellow gold pearl ring (cultured) that is more silver than black, but the sales people said the Tahitians come in various shades and they are referred to as black.  They said it wasn't dyed, and it looked pretty blemish free. It was old stock so it was discounted. The South Seas pearls are the creamy colors.  I also got a pinkish Akoya pearl set in sterling with pink MOP.  Gotta take pictures.
