Any item listed as parts repair can be a problem return.
Here's an example & NO this is not one of my sales or listings...
You list a combo VHS/DVD player
You're honest noting any & all known flaws.... VHS works/DVD is Dead
Buyer receives the unit & although 1/2 the unit is broken if the VHS side dies
within 30 days & even if it's due to buyer's abuse the unit's coming back
It is a hassle for the seller & if the seller attempts to fight the return & ebay
has to step in we know the consequences...
This is why so many sellers list an item as
Not powered on sold as parts repair
It is the only way to avoid a return &/or refund
Do you think ebay will someday STOP the sales of parts repair items
maybe automobiles aside to minimize the problems associated with selling them

I don't think its as bad as how you make it out to be.
Sure, you are going to get a bad sale once in a while, but most people that buy an item listed for parts only, as-is, etc, generally don't have an issue with the concept, as they are looking to either fix it, or use it to fix something else.
The buyers that try to return something, often are doing it because its either not what they expected, or remorse, and the only option is INAD.
I haven't had a problem with this for years, and I sell a lot of parts-only laptops. Hell I have some listed now.
I do specify that I have no returns requested for those types of sales, but I have also specified that any items filed for INAD will need return shipped to be refunded.

Items sold 'for parts' should be deconstructed and all parts included photographed. Otherwise the possibility one small part will be removed and the item returned is significant.

One thing I've noticed with Parts or Repair, is the crazy prices some sellers try to get out of broken items.
I've sold items for Part or Repair without any problems, but I price them cheap so the buyer gets a good deal, even if there's only a few good parts they can use.
