Do the math before you list your items.
Listing fees, selling fees, shipping fees, and paypal fees.

Are you female? Because "handbag" has been the go to word for quite some time now.
Give me a logical reason for not using both.

Agreed. Ebay is the epicenter of greed. 10% on collectibles. Outlandish. Ebay is the dichotomy of Liberalism and anti-American ideals.
lol lol
Probably you need to be doing garage sales instead of using eBay's platform that is shopped nationwide and from every corner of the globe. That way, ALL your garage sale money could stay in your pocket, since you wouldn't be using somebody elses platform to carry your merchandise listings.

Do I need to pay ebay to give my inventory away?
Nope. A quick Craigslist post will accomplish that.

If you live in New England the term is pocketbook for some reason

And there are plenty of other sites with less fees than ebay. I can sell 3 to 4 times more on another site than I do on ebay and still my ebay fees are more than theirs......And i pay to list on the other site.
Perhaps that's what they were getting at and not slow sales. Hard to say unless they clarify.
Good job on the other E!

And do your math before you pay too much money,
purchasing the items you wish to resell here.

Had a good 36 hours there yesterday. Sold almost double there in 2 days than I did for a week here, and I had a reasonable week here. But hey, all the naysayers can keep believing there is no traffic there and not cut into my buyer base there and stay here where all the problem buyers are.

Apparently you think capitalism is only acceptable when it's the sellers. Ebay is not allowed to capitalize on their market without being called un-American or greedy.
That makes no sense. It is no more wrong for Ebay to want to make money than it is for the sellers.
And most auction services charge AT LEAST 20% for their services.

Sometimes is IS very disappointing. We all list here with such high hopes, such expectations that we will be able to make so many sales we'll get rich.. because there are so many people out there who will see our stuff, and surely they will be buying it faster than we can get it listed.
Unhappily, we find we are nothing more than one itty bitty speck of a store lost in a mall consisting of a bazillion other stores who are dealing in much the same stuff, so the shoppers are buying, but there isn't enough purchasing to cover everyone very well, AND... to make it worse, the shoppers are able to comparison shop pretty easily among all the stores and are mostly buying where they get the best deals to top it off.
Sometimes they've already made a purchase and gone home before they even found our store! Sometimes they sort of see our stuff, but don't think it's displayed very well, or priced very enticingly, or is quite as nice as we think it is, or for whatever reason they pass on by and shop from another store.
And, the more sellers who fill the mall with pretty much the same merchandise as you are offering, the worse the competition becomes. The BUYERS are happy, because they most often find something they are happy with from some seller there in the mall.
Sorry you aren't getting the sales you are hoping for. The categories you sell in are just jam-packed with competition, so that really makes it hard to grab a very big chunk of the sales generated in those busy, busy categories!

Ahhhh... yes, perhaps that is the angle they were coming from with that statement. Not enough info given...

Yep. Here is a shot of that site's portion of my September spreadsheet.
Of particular note are the Gross Sales, Venue Fees, and Net Earnings boxes at the top. 😄

For those pondering trying their hand there, I have only one caveat. Keep track of your insertion fees. It is 20 cents per listing (for a 4 month cycle). And if you are not mindful of what you are doing, those can sneak up on you.
I myself start each month with a personal policy of doing up to 50 items ($10 in insertion fees). And then once I have a net earnings of $20 or more, I will authorize myself up to an additional 50 listings, so $20 tops; aka about the same as I pay for a single Basic Store here. That doesn't mean all 100 get used, but I give myself the option to do so if I feel like it. Oh, and for this month, that $20 net earnings was achieved 2 days ago; and I have a lot of stuff to go up there. In fact, nowadays for anything from 1997 or earlier (1998 or earlier in just a few short months), they get awarded the items first for a 4 month listing cycle before I start sending them through my various accounts here.

Or, even more confusing, the proper use of "dichotomy" would indicate that Liberalism and anti-American ideals are opposites.
I'm so confused. Think I'll go hit a little white ball in the warm sunshine ...
I'm a liberal. In fact, I'm a socialist of the democratic socialist variety. I buy lots of collectibles all the time and I love America.
Maybe I need a defect.

Nah. A nice cup of chamomile will do the trick, georg 🙂 No need for defects 🙂
I'm a blue, deep in red country ... chamomile definitely helps 🙂
