Cannot change primary contact for our Sole Proprietor sellers account

Background - our son ran the ebay account years ago.  He's moved on, and I want to use it for selling now. 

Went to update the primary contact information and email address (success).

Updated the bank account info - Succeeded with a verification call to ebay (success).

Tried to edit his SSN to replace it with mine.  (Failed)

Called ebay.  They said for me to try the following:

1. Register as an LLC.  Nope, Im a sole prop.  Not interested in standing up an LLC for this hobby
2. Open up a new ebay account.  REALLY?  Walk away from our history / reputation?
3. Use the account.  What will happen?  They will hold funds until the SSN is verified.  But here's the thing - IT CANT BE EDITED.  So when I edited the Fname / Lname of the primary contact, of course its no longer a match for the existing SSN. 

Ebay states that there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to edit the SSN of the primary account holder for a Sole Prop. 

Goodbye ebay.

That is correct. eBay has never allowed accounts to be transferred from one person to another.
