Nickel is the coins metal composition. 3¢ were also made in silver.

Well I think it's a nice looking coin. I bought a 1923 last year that's in about the same condition. If you get bored with yours, I'll take it off your hands.

Thank you but why do they call it a three cents when it's a nickel and do they have the 3 cents with a shield.?

It's not a three cents nickel. It's a nickel, three cents. there's also a silver three cents.

Whay back when, they made smaller denominations of coins. They made copper cents and half cents along with a copper 2 cents They also made Nickel 3 cents and 5 cents. Nickel has become associated with the 5 cents since they did away with the 3 cents. Nickel was the metal they used to make bothe coins out of.
