it looks like a Vatican 500 lira test strike or die trial, but it's much smaller than the coin...

 

nothing listed in Krause under patterns...

 

no clue what it actually is, but it's in my birthyear collection...

Interesting piece

Neat item!  This is way outta Heron's area of coin info.  However, did find a similar coin listed on a Deutsche place that had this info:  Almost identical

Coat of Arms side.  Date 1964.  Silver.  29.3mm dia round.  KM83. Listed as Kursmuenze.

(Kursmuenze = current money or currency).   Numista shows same coin as

KM83 and 29.3mm dia.   There is also an additional slightly different

issue listed as KM83.1.   If that 1963 issue is not 29.3mm dia then it is probably

something 'special'.  (This depletes the info Heron knows about Vatican coins).
