Why is Ebay charging sales tax on the shipping cost????? I thought we were only taxed on the product itself.

Whether shipping is taxed depends on the law of the particular state involved:

So ridiculous. Wonder what we will be taxed next?

This is not a new tax. Buyers were supposed to be paying Use Tax in most States on anything taxable bought from out of State. This is just a new way of collecting it, given that many buyers did not follow the law.

Terrible law.

You mean the tax law, who's proceeds go to support all sorts of infrastructure on a state, county and local level? Do you like having emergency services? How about clean parks? Public schools?
If you do, stop complaining. You owed that tax all along, and since you, and most of the rest of us in didn't pay, the law was implemented.

I already pay ridiculous amounts of money to educate other peoples kids. If i purchase something from another state and it is shipped from that state then yes the law is ridiculous. If the morons running the state would stop the waste then these ridiculous taxes would not be necessary

You're not looking at this correctly. If there were no internet sales, you'd go to the local store and purchase there, where you would pay tax. Now that many malls and stores are failing due to internet sales, states have been getting HUGE REDUCTIONS in the Sales Taxes Collected.
Your household has a budget, just like any City, County or State. They all have payrolls, vehicles, materials, retirements etc. to pay. Property Tax, Sales Tax and Income Tax are the ways they collect.
If you think about it, you cannot get out of Income or Property Tax (if you rent, your landlord is paying) but Sales Tax you have control over. Quit buying, problem solved.

The state gets plenty of money from its citizens. This is just another excuse for them to bleed us even more.

Do you not pay state sales tax when you buy at WalMart?
Your local gas station or drugstore?
Do you see it as "terrible" then?

Alrigt folks your straying off course. I am talking about SHIPPING TAX, not product tax. Lets just move on to another topic.

Pair of shoes at Walmart cost you $12.. you pay taxes on that purchase
Pair of shoes here cost you $10 with shipping. You pay taxes on that purchase. Shipping was part of you being able to get those shoes for $5 with $5 shipping, so you paid $10 to get them.
Easy enough?
Bottom line, it's not going to change, and it's the right way to tax people- on the entire purchase experience.
