Not sure how to answer this

Bought something paid immediately March 19th

Buyer emails me today saying I’ll try and ship it today

I was watching the sale and

the information said it would be arriving btw the 23-25

But I could see it wasn’t shipped

🧐

Is this ok

I feel a little grumpy about it

Re: Not sure how to answer this

What does it state is the sellers 'handling' time (usually stated in the small tabs on the left, 'Shipping, returns & payment' tab?

Re: Not sure how to answer this

You can open an Item Not Received claim as early as one day past the Estimated Delivery Date on the order.

Sellers have to ship as they state. Some can have 5 days handling, 10, 30- so it depends. Many don't have local USPS pick up and the nearest PO is 20 miles away, so they wait to get a 'few things' before they ship (and should, again, show the 'handling time').

As far as the 'delivery date'- you can open a 'Not Received' 1 day past the last date (although know that the 'last date' quit being used when eBay comes up with these 'dates'; for example, I have 5 business days, even shows it right at the top below the 'buy it now' but then says the 'estimated delivery dates are 'before' my handling time is even up!).

Re: Not sure how to answer this

There's no need to answer the seller's message, especially if you're feeling grumpy. Yes, it is disappointing to find that your item hasn't been shipped yet.

As others have noted, you can check on the seller's handling time, go to the listing and click on the "Shipping and payments" tab.  The estimated delivery date(s) shown in the listing are put there by eBay, not by the seller,  and sometimes they completely disregard the seller's handling time. Handling time is measured in business days so today is day 4.

Re: Not sure how to answer this

I can’t go to the original listing

when I try I get a notice that says

you bought this item

it does not take me to original listing

I checked the sellers other items and he/she has none 😨

Re: Not sure how to answer this

Looks like an attempt to keep you updated without providing any clues as to why they have not shipped 🙂

Perhaps fishing for a "buyer request to cancel", perhaps not.

As long as your need for the item is not critical you can just wait, and chalk it up on the tally board as just another somewhat clueless seller that you may not want to purchase from again.

Same as with stainless, based upon my handling time, eBay always gives my buyers an unrealistic estimate.

Seller can get a ding if they do not ship in the estimated time.

I won an auction-style listing on Mar 17

The seller @def.a.posting.id finally shipped today, Mar 23

--  and according to eBay,  it will also be arriving today, Mar 23.

Re: Not sure how to answer this

Sellers don't have to ship "pronto".   They have to ship within their stated handling time, which may be up to 30 days, though if it's over 5 days, eBay puts a yellow flag on the listing's shipping info to alert you that there is an "extended handling time".

There is a frustration in eBay's estimated arrival times that the algorithm does not use the actual handling time, but uses the seller's HISTORICAL handling time (until 4 or 5 days, I forget which), which is super frustrating to both buyers & sellers.   I historically ship in less than a day, but if I've extended my handling time, it ususally means there's a reason (snowstorm, injury, whatever), so the algorithm should use the chosen handling time.   Others have told you what to do if you don't get it by the date specified.

"We're getting two feet of snow today and it might start snowing before I can finish work in my home office and get on the roads and go to the post office."

"I have to pick up my kid from school and they're doing sports, I might get to the post office 10 minutes after they close."

"My car hasn't been starting all the time recently and if it doesn't start, I'm going to have to get it fixed before I can mail your package because I live 10 miles from the nearest post office."

Get the idea?
