Good morning everyone!
I have a question about a copy of Mark Twain's "Roughing It" that I picked up. The date has 1872. A few of the usually asked features.
Page 242 lines 20-21 has the word “he” but not the word “his”.
The “M” on the first line of the contents page xi does not appeared battered.
Capital "E" in eastern on page 330, line 23
Capital "T" in trees on page 156
"thirteenth" instead of "sixteenth" on page 156;
No advertising on page 592
Now the thing that is really throwing me off. It does not have the usual gilded picture and writing on the cover. The binder just has "Roughing It" over a line that then has "Mark Twain", all inside doubled gilded lines. Nothing on the front cover at all. Could this possibly be an intermediate state? Thanks for your help!
The two plates “Camping in the Snow” and “The Miners Dream” are in the front of the book, separated by tissue.
