We have a 25 year old video tape of a family Christmas that we just found - it has been in storage - when you look into one of the top windows you can see what looks like white powder? on the top of the film reel.
We want to transfer it to dvd but are afraid to put it into our machine that transfers vhs to dvd, we also have an old vhs machine that we don't care if the tape wrecks, we could put it in that machine and then copy from it to the other machine, but we want to be sure the tape will rewind (it is half played) and then play at least once so we can copy it.
Is it better to rewind it in the machine or try to rewind it by hand from underneath?
Should we remove the plastic window and try to clean off the top of the film or should we just put it into the machine and try to copy it? Or will we need to take it to a speciallist and if so how do we find one?
We are in Lincoln Nebraska - please feel free to send me a message via my ebay name - or reply on this thread. thanks
