Are these blue diamonds or topaz?

This ring was my mother's and she wants me to list it, but she can't remember if it is made of blue diamonds or topaz. I know there is a huge difference between the two. Can you tell from these pics? TIA!

none can ID a gem from a picture. A diamond tester will do.
It is more likely they are not diamonds (which does not make them automatically topazes! the could be cz, fluorite, lab stones, glass, etc etc). But likelihood is not certainty.

They look glued in rather than prong set so I'd guess they were rhinestones.

Rhinestones for me too. The second you see glue, chances are the stones aren't real.

Thank you all for the help. I didn't think they were diamonds either. We are going to get a diamond tester, but we need to wait a bit due to funds...or lack their of..lol

I really appreciate the help!

Hi,

Just take them to a Pawn shop and tell them you want to sell your "diamonds" set in "gold". They will check them for free and at least tell you if they are diamond or not or even if the metal is gold. Depending on the meter they use, they may be able to give you a good guess on what the "stones" are.

It's FREE! :-) Good luck!

These are foilbacks, or rhinestones. See how you can see the entire outside diameter of the stones, with no metal pushed over to hold them in? That means they are glued in. Stones without foiled backs will not sparkle when glued in place. They look dead.

It's a pretty ring though, if fairly new. Definitely rhinestone, but the ring might be sterling with the standard rhodium finish. My guess is not, but it's a nice costume piece.
