Email can not just be sent, you must get a persons permission to email them. First you collect the names, by asking them for it. or buying them. Never buy a list that people did not opt-in to, you'll get in trouble and may lose your email accounts. You must also have a way to opt-out (remove the name). The best way is to buy them and let the company email the list. Then any name that comes through as a buyer is yours. That would be your list. There is a catch about 25% of the names you buy are no good and you should get a 2% response from the good ones, so it will take a large list.

Just list the item..If people want it, you have your exposure. People are going to look for what they collect or have on their mind. Don't look so much into it and just let it work itself. Check your items against others if there are a bunch of others like it not selling don't bother wasting your time or money. Ebay gets enough of it.

Re: Looking to get more exposure...HELP

in reply to auntiejj2007
I can't speak for everyone, but I can speak from my own personal experience as a long-time eBayer. I used to set all my auctions as "Buy It Now" with a "or Best Offer" as well. I also couldn't figure out why nobody wanted my items as much as I though they would. Then I reverted to good 'ol human psychology. Sure, I had some rare items, hard to find stuff, and if you Googled something I had for sale my eBay listing would pop up, but nobody wants to be TOLD how much something is when they go to a site like eBay. They want a deal. Can you blame them? I know I'm always on the lookout for a deal! And if it's something I WANT, or have been LOOKING for forever, getting the chance to WIN it makes it even sweeter. It's the thrill of the chase. So I started setting a low opening bid with a RESERVE. Then I would set my "Buy It Now" at some OUTRAGEOUS high price. Psychology dictates that when buyers see the outrageous Buy It Now price, but an opening bid of just a few bucks, you'll get more bids. Then, as the bids increase, it becomes a contest. In the last few minutes of an auction, that contest becomes an all out COMPETITION. The item doesn't even EXIST anymore! It is nothing more than a little picture in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. NOW it is all about WINNING. The guy you out bid just outbid you... "I'll show HIM", and you outbid him! And when it is all said and done, the item comes back into focus, and the winner now has a trophy. "Yeah, I won this (widget) on eBay. Paid (a million) bucks for it, but I beat out 15 other bidders to get it. You don't see these very often." The other tip I can give you, TIMING is everything. There won't be a bidding war at 5am EST if that's when your auction ends. Everyone from coast to coast is sound asleep in bed. I usually start (and by proxy, end) my auctions around 6:30-7:30PM PST. That way, I'm hitting the most people I can when the auction comes to a close. If it's 6:30PM PST, it's 9:30PM EST. Folks are getting home from work on the west coast, and it isn't too late to be awake if you have to work the next morning on the east coast. It has been a learning process, but over time I've learned the "habits" of my particular market. Saturdays and Sundays are a bad time to end an auction, unless it's Sunday evening, because the weekend is when most guys are out working on their cars (I sell classic car parts). I try to get my auctions going at a time that it's still fresh in their minds that they noticed they needed a (thingamajig) on their 1968 Chevy (whatever model), so they clean up and sit down to browse eBay for the missing (thingamajig). LEARN your market. KNOW your buyers. Hope I've helped you. Again, this is just my experience talking.

Things selling so low from China. I think they have cornered the jewelry market. I have had to list my hard work handmade jewelry for pennies. I've even given it away. (not kidding) with ebay fees and listing things for 99 cents. I am unable to keep selling on eBay if this keeps up. I never thought i would say that cause i brag about eBay

But this is ridiculous. Not even able to pay the fees i have coming up! And we've been selling a long time!

Have you tried selling on Etsy ?

Congrats on your recent marriage! I also find its a pain to have to go back to ebay and revise to be able to add my store categories. Maybe we should write to auctiva about that. Not sure what you mean by the location on your listing of certain info. I just reuse my last listing in auctiva and change it, so my standard info is always at the bottom. How long have you been selling? When you work hard to exceed expectations happy customers will return. Lots of communication. I get emails thanking me for nice packaging. I try to wrap items like a retail store would. Amazing how tacky some things look that i buy on ebay. Looks to me like some of your items could be overpriced. Do you research sold items before deciding on a price? Do you lower the price if it hasnt sold? You are competing against all the similar lower priced items. I would rather sell it fast and move on myself. Hope that helps a bit. Just keep priming the pump and it will eventually pay off. Cast your bread upon the waters and after MANY days it will return.... Best to you!

Couple of quick observations:
1. You are selling items that will usually not sell well in a poor economy. None appear to be "hot" items.
2. I have never found that selling library purchased books works well.
3. "You are buying "AS IS". Returns will not be accepted" unenforceable and a turn off.
Auctions and pictures look good but lots of those types of items are simply not selling right now.

Please tell me as a newbie to selling on e bay. . .what ARE current HOT ITEMS?

I've had varying sucess- about 1-1.2 yrs
I missed the salad days- & it keeps getting tougher;higher fees & world wide recession-
had some good sales- about 25% foreign & more now genreraly- they pay more for shipping than US & still buy- undersold some things just to move & get bids-
you have to watch yr overhead- if you sell items over $50 store has significant savings- & pics in some areas-
fees were less- I find you cant post in categories that are too big -
you have to check what is selling & what else is on line & if people are bidding- or no bids
-I've seen same item from 10-120+ how can you sell something even for 30-if its for sale at 10-
more unique irtems I find I hve to figure out search words so they will come up- have to watch insertion fees-
now without store you will get 50 free- store no-but pay higher fees- there was 3-1/2 months there were no deals on low inserts- I used BIN- bec with store I paid more on final fee but could post more- for longer-for less-
I set minimum price I can live with- sometimes things sell 1X- others I've put in 6-8X - but it sells- if I dont watch insertion fees - I'd go broke- I avoid lisiting dead items- & I have to be able to compete with price- or dont bother listing-
you dont have to try harder you have to try smarter\
ebay * paypal aways collect- if there are no bids-doesnt matter what you paid - its market now
