Why is eBay trying to erase history and ban items?

I have never posted here before, but feel I must say something as eBay's NEW politically correct policy of what is considered "Offensive Material" is threatening to erase history and reminders of the past and present that are deemed to someone, somewhere and somehow to be "offensive"? Including any item that depicts the confederate flag, anything post 1933 that includes symbolism of Nazi Germany, anything that can be considered offensive to anyone who identifies themselves by race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. This is the official new "Offensive Materials Policy update" This is directly from the ebay:

What is the policy

- Listings that promote, perpetuate, or glorify hatred, violence, or discrimination, including on the grounds of race, ethnicity, color, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, aren’t allowed. This includes, but isn't limited to, the following:
-- Slurs or epithets of any kind
-- Items, including figurines, cartoons, housewares, historical advertisements, and golliwogs with racist, anti-Semitic, or otherwise demeaning portrayals, for example through caricatures or other exaggerated features
-- Black Americana items that are discriminatory
-- Slavery items, including reproductions, such as tags, shackles, documents, bills of sale, etc.
-- Confederate battle flag and related items with its image
-- Historical Holocaust-related items, including reproductions
-- Any item that is anti-Semitic or any item from after 1933 that bears a swastika
-- Media identified as Nazi propaganda
-- Listings that imply or promote support of, membership in, or funding of a terrorist organization
- When offering shipping to other countries, make sure to first check our

I read their policy but it still seems unclear. Should this mean that items with a black face can't be listed? Does this mean that Aunt Jemima items or Nubian figurines can't be listed?

Yes, he was.  Of course, when much of history is taken in the context of the time chances are that many of the people in history were not up to what people think of as morally superior by today's standard.  Frankly, Winston Churchill was known to drink and smoke while Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian and abstained from the use of alcohol.  Also, if memory serves, quite a few presidents and politicians seemed to have a fondness for female companionship from other than their wives.  Does that justify tearing down statues and downplaying the good that they have done?  Maybe or maybe not.

I suppose, it would be nice to be able to rewrite history as we would like it to have been.  However, that is something of a slippery path that once embarked on, not easily diverted from.

...so $20 bills will have a good base to stay...I think you should move your campaign to either $50 or $100 bills as they are better in value...

But this was 200 years ago.  Political parties were still in their infancy - there was no "Democrats and Republicans."  Comparing today's Democratic party to that which finally formed around Jackson from the rubble of collapsed parties (Federalist, etc.) in opposition to the Whigs (also formed from various parties) 200 years ago is as inaccurate as comparing Lincoln's Republican party to that of the modern GOP.  Often the votes were split and even in living memory the Democrats had a conservative element and the party of Lincoln advocated liberalism - it was after the New Deal and then the Civil Rights and Voting acts that both parties had a significant shift in base.  Until then, there was a lot of back room horse trading when it came to issues (in other words, business as usual in politics).

This is all to say that this tinkering with history is fraught with problems.

The Cherokee owned slaves and fought for The South in the Civil War.  One of their elders reached the rank of general in the Confederate Army.

Ban the Cherokee.

More strange things to wrap your head around.  This is all lunacy.

Alas!  If memory serves, Andy Jackson didn't do right by the Cherokee either.   Wasn't it he that sent them on the trail of tears?  Even after they fought with the US over the British in the War of 1812.

Re: Why is eBay trying to erase history and ban items?

Antifa is a certified paramilitary terrorist organization with roots going back to Joe Stalin and post Weimar Germany.  Fascist was a term the Soviets used interchangeably with late stage capitalism.  The Soviet hammer and sickle logo is common at the various protests the last couple of weeks.  They're advocating - by force - for destruction of our current society and replacing it with a collective Soviet style communist utopia.

There are currently 3349 results for an ebay antifa search - clothing, stickers, etc.

Banned Aunt Jemima was probably less of a genuine threat.

eBay is banning items, but they are not trying to "erase history".

Just out of curiosity, if eBay is removing any evidence or examples or representations of historical periods or occurrences what would you call it? At the very least it is censorship. If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck don't try to convince me that it is a sheep.

I don't know what every body is so upset about. Doesn't it infuriate you that people are still allowed to purchase such obviously racist items like "crackers" or "white bread"?  OMG and what about "Miracle Whip"? ....SO RACIST!!! Lol

Where does it all stop? Political correctness will be the downfall of our once great nation.

because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

According to the Native American artist who originally designed the Land O' Lakes logo, that was NOT Pocahontas, but simply an idealized Native American woman of his own invention.

@salliemae You may want to google the every student succeeds act signed by Obama December 10, 2015. Even though there was a previous version the upgraded version made things even easier for students to pass regardless of grades.
