The stock price would rise once he made his offer to take it private, and there would probably be a modest bump in sales due to the ensuing press coverage.

Once he acquired it, there would be cost cutting and layoffs and an increase in fees as he made the financials look better and prepared to take it public again.

But he has no history of experience in running a third-party ecommerce site, so I do not think he would suddenly take a keen interest in making changes to the site. He would let eBay management do that.

If Gates bought eBay, I would guess my Apple products wouldn't work with the site anymore. At the very least, I would probably start seeing a "It's not us, it's you" page on a regular basis.
