Sold an item for local pickup in 2018. It is now 2022.
Buyer paid. Buyer knew it was local pickup.
Can I re-sell this item? It is taking up a lot of space and care.

Of course you can relist!

2018??
I would have refunded and relisted after the first couple of weeks if I had not heard from the buyer.

Ownership doesn't take place until it's delivered so it's still your item.
If they paid I think most sellers would refund the buyer if they didn't pick it up by 30 days.
If they didn't pay you could've cancelled and gotten a fee credit.

You are joking, right? FOUR YEARS AGO?

I would just sell it again. The original buyer has abandoned the item at this point. It won't even be in the ebay database anymore.
I can understand not refunding, they likely put you off again and again before finally going dark on you. Not on ebay but I have sold several arcade games that people just never picked up. Paid, and then just vanished off the face of the earth.

And, if the buyer paid, shouldn't we mention that the OP needs to refund the buyer, if at all possible.

Keep a note of his name and contact information.
Sell the item again.
If he ever turns up, refund him.
If he doesn't, you were charging him storage fees (for four freakin' years) that happened to be identical to the purchase price.

C'mon, this is a joke right ?

Wow, that longest lay away I've heard.

I would keep the money.
You cared for his item for 4 years.
Is that not worth anything?

Nope, teach these bad buyers a lesson. :). It's not a requirement. Take the money.

No, don't refund. lol

2 year old dead thread. I doubt the OP will be replying as they don't appear to sell anymore. Hopefully the buyer picked up their item.
Happy Selling and Palm Sunday!
