Please Help w/Pottery Artist Signature ID & Items

Hi...Happy New Year!

Any help is  appreciated in identifying the artist who made these two items. They are signed but I can’t read it. The first is a ceramic mug with a snake handle (3 1/2” high)  and the other is a squat ceramic vase (2 1/4” high).  They came from the estate of a collector and I can’t find them anywhere online.

They look like student work, maybe even say Mom on the bottom. Even collectors receive gifts.

Thanks Janet...The family told me the pieces were purchased by him at an antique shop several years ago in CT but they didn’t know anything else. It is signed SD MON(ITH) maybe.
