Another one of those "what is it" buys! Whatever it is, it only cost $2, so I don't mind. But please let me know if you have a clue what this is for. It has a blue mark on the interior that I finally identified as Carl Thieme; the mark reads Dresden / Guaranteed Hand Painted / Dresden, Germany, with the Thieme logo.
The piece is 8 inches wide, 2.75 inches high at the side, or 4.5 inches high at the top of the candle-holder-thing in the middle. It is 8-sided (octagon), with two 8 sided cutouts for holding something, two round indented areas, two square sloped indents, and two little holders where something would rest. It is covered in hand-painted purple roses and thick gold trim.
Religious purpose, maybe? I'm pretty clueless. Thanks for any suggestions!
