Being charged by eBay for a returned item from buyer

I’m very frustrated and just don’t understand the process on ebay

i sold a vintage cookie jar to a buyer

when he opened it he says it was not what he expected

so he packed it up and sent it back to me and eBay gave him his money back

$455.87

if it was refunded to him and it was , why are they charging me $77.87

i contested charge so they can’t take out of my checking account

they have no explanation how they arrive at $77.87

i keep sending them to explain the amount

i don’t under stand why I would pay 77.87 for an item that was returned to me

the sale in the end never followed customer unhappy with cookie jar

ebsy held money on side until cookie jar came back to me . I told them it was returned and I’m being charged more than I believe I should be

Being charged by eBay for a returned item from buyer

@jewel_ladi

This appears to be the item:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235028867012?nordt=true

And it sold for this amount, plus shipping cost as shown, according to Terapeak eBay Research:

https://www.ebay.com/sh/research?marketplace=ALL&keywords=%22Red+Wing+Cookie+Jar+Chef+Pierre+Vintage...

If you didn't accept the return, and if eBay had to "step in and help" by returning the buyer's money because you didn't accept the return or refund the money voluntarily, then you still have to pay the selling fees. If you had accepted the return voluntarily so that eBay didn't have to step in and do it for you, then you would have been eligible for a credit of the selling fees.

You also have to pay for the shipping label and the return shipping if the buyer selected any kind of a "not as described" return when they opened the case.

in fees?

It doesn't look like fees, it looks like Shipping Costs (approximately 39.00 X 2) which you will be on the hook for........

If you look under Transactions, it will all be detailed there for you....

(hint, click on the amounts or the titles/descriptions in whatever area you are in and it will lead to more details/explanations)

all those little arrows  >  lead to more 'stuff'

In your first post you said the buyer sent it back and Ebay refunded them.

Did you refund the buyer or did Ebay do it for you?

Did the buyer start a return through Ebay or just ship it back?

If Ebay had to get involved in any way, they would keep their fee's.

@jewel_ladi

Did you issue the refund through a Return case ? If not, maybe eBay doesn't know why you refunded the buyer.

Probably that is what the return shipping was if the buyer brought it to a shipper and had them box and ship it

Yes I believe the buyer told eBay first and then me

ebay held money on the side until the item was returned to me

Did you refund the buyer yourself when you got the item back? Or did eBay do it for you?

Yes, they will put a hold of the funds, then you refund the buyer when it's returned.

Did you issue the refund or did Ebay do it?

If the buyer opened a case for "item not as described", then the seller would have been required to send the buyer a prepaid return shipping label if he wanted the item to be returned.  If the seller did not do that, then eBay could have sent that prepaid label on the seller's behalf and charged the seller for the label.

The buyer returned it because he saw other identical ones listed for $49 and $99.

You should have been able to deduct original shipping because it was a remorse return.  This is if they filed a return citing changed mind, no longer want it.

What if you tried to accept the return but ebay site would not allow you no matter how many times you tried.

Tĥe original question was resolved. You should start a new topic about your problem.

If I couldn't accept I'd contact eBay ASAP.
