I was looking at a pin that had only a patent number on the back: 2066969. Thinking the patent might shed some light on the pin, I looked it up and was surprised to find that the patent applied specifically to the roll-over type of fastener. Just thought you might be interested.

Now you know why some of us giggle when people list "Victorian Era antique pins" with this WWII era latching system

This site gives a lot of information about dating clasps and patents for a few of them.

The Farnham clasp which is the patent you are showing is not just a roll-over clasp, but the method of making it as part of a bar-pin back.
According to the information on this site, the safety clasp (with the rollover portion) was invented around 1910.

Hello Sorry for butting in But I am very new to trying figuring out the age of jewel. As I have a lot and live 2 miles from goodwill that has an area where you pay by the 99 cents a pound and found so much 14k gold, silver and so many other old pieces and need to learn. I check out the site you listed could you please if you know of a good place let me know where. Thank you, Have an awesome day
