Found these at a small yard sale today, they are clearly mismatched clip opal earrings,,,the coloration on these things is something else in the sunshine. The round backs are marked 9ct the clip part is some kind of other metal,,,will this detract from selling them, or will the fact that they are mismatched detract from their selling? Your thoughts please.

They look to be doublets.the dark one is fine but the light colored one appears to be seperating from the base.

If the lighter one is peeling away, that would be the reason they don't match.

would you guys scrap these for the 9ct and the opal or would you sell them on line?

I still think it is weird that the opal is sitting ina 9ct gold cup and the back of the clip is some time of other metal...not sure why that was done

Being they're only 9 ct, the backs are incorrect and oversized, and the one opal is damaged, I don't think they have much re-sale value as a set. That one opal is so nice, though, someone who is looking for one might buy it. Did you try on the earrings? I had a pair similar to that with replaced oversized backs and they didn't work on the ears because the fronts were too short to hold them on.

I think guantlet is right and that the clips are additions.
So then probably not worth trying to sell on ebay,,,

Going to take them to the local jeweler today to see "if they can be fixed" if not, probably going to scrap
