Help With Daily Dis-comfort

Needing to create a topic with comfort issues.

Really need some help with this.

I am confined to sitting or lying down all the time. High level pain when sitting so can't do that for long. Pain is especially in the tail bone (Coccyx) region. This is where the main part of the dis-abilities comes from. Messages do not travel past there up or down.

When there is numbness in such a vast region of the body I do not realize chaffing and sores are there. These can be dangerous.

The ReHab center has been suggesting trying various Gel Foam padding. Tried that and it is too hard creates high pain level.

We've been to several wheel chair centers where they offer various padding. None seem to work.

Has anyone in our group ever experienced this? Maybe you have suggestions.

The birds will really appreciate any solutions you have. They are getting shorter and shorter time to whistle with me.

Sure nice to have such a helpful group.

Help With Daily Dis-comfort

Not sure if we tried that or not. Will get some and find out.

What happens is my lower body becomes chaffed and then opens up to a wound. I dont know it is happening. The danger of infection is very high.

Similar to bed sores you hear about people getting in the hospital.

We just got a gel cushion at a local wheel chair supply place. It may help not sure.

Stay young LOL thank you for your thoughts.

Help With Daily Dis-comfort

Years ago my brother gave me a massage pad that fits on my office chair. It's got heat and individual vibrating points. I can't tell you what a difference it's made for me. Unfortunately it's wearing out and they don't make the same one any more.

I also invested in a decent mattress for my bed. I got one with a soft pillow top but a medium firm mattress. I thought about getting one of those pick your number air mattresses (can't remember the exact name) but I have cats and figured their claws would probably puncture the air pockets. Never did find the Temperpedic comfortable. And from what I'm told, they're hot to sleep on.

Hope this helps.

Help With Daily Dis-comfort

Recently found some gel pads at the local medical supply store. This store has all kinds of things for disabled people.

They had many different choices. The ones we got were kind of thin. Form to your body very gently. Seems to be helping.

Thank you for your thoughts on this solianor.

Help With Daily Dis-comfort

Hope the gel pads are helping. I tried one once but I'm very sensitive to heat and it just got too hot leaning on it. I have the same problem with foam.

A lot of people don't understand this problem so I ask them if they remember the fairy tale, "The Princess and the Pea." I don't remember how many mattresses they piled up but the princess still felt the pea at the bottom. Sometimes I get that way with the wrinkles in my sheets.

Yes the wrinkles in the sheets are painful also.

One thing a pain management center figured out recently. The doctor said some of this is cause by "Allodynia"

Try looking that up in a search.

Note: Stay away from those trying to sell you something when you search this. Lots of those crooks out there. 😮

She sent me to a woman who specializes in long trem Allodynia Pain in the elderly. The specialist said it was not fibo or any other disease. It was just from so many years of long term pain. My body thinks it is suppose to be in pain.

She did massages with this special oils all throughout those regions 2 times a week. After a while it actually reduced some of the pain. When it returns she does this again. Medicare covers it 12 times a year.

It helps me hope it helps someone else.

Help With Daily Dis-comfort

I had the strangest thing happen to me. I was moving a chair and the toe nail on my big toe got caught under it and was ripped almost completely off. I didn't feel a thing. The only way I knew what happened was my cats were sniffing around the blood. That was about 3 weeks ago. I went to the emergency room and they removed the nail. I still don't have any pain and none of the doctors can explain it.

Personally I think it has something to do with the pain messages and the way my body processes them. I have both fibro and m/e so my brain is processing messages of pain when there shouldn't be any or as much as I am feeling at the tim. I think it's failed to process the real pain.

I'm just thankful that I don't have another pain center...and that it's not infected...yet.

WOW that is interesting. The opposite of allodynia?

Alodynia is when your body thinks it is suppose to hurt. So it does.

Sure hope your toe does not get infected. We like epson salt water soakings with things like that.

Take care,

I had both my large toe nails surgically removed ... but they grew back and look prehistoric ... they are gross and my sandal wearing days are officially over.

Hope you don't suffer any ill effects from losing the nail ... and yes, epsom salts soaks are really a good idea.

Help With Daily Dis-comfort

My anxiety level is rising today ... a lady is coming to my house to assess it this afternoon ... she says it will only be about 15-30 minutes.  My landlord confirms this and says it doesn't mean they are going to sell or that we have to move ... they are having all their rentals assessed.  We are wondering if they are trying to refinance.

My point is simply this ... I hate to have strangers in my house ... it makes me very uncomfortable and anxious.

Do I follow her around the house or just let her do her thing?

The nail bed is finally starting to heal. Only half of it is still scabbed over. I've got an appointment with my rheumatologist Monday...should be interesting to get his input.

As for the people coming to see your house...I would definitely stay with them. Not only do I not feel comfortable with strangers in my home...I don't trust them. That may sound terrible but considering some of the people who used to come and go, it was not unusual for things to go missing.

Just found this message down the list. Hope they were not too nosey while lookin thru your home.

May be the taxing evaluation folks from the city or town you live in. They just did that here in Florida.

If they raise the landlord taxes you may get stuck with an increase in rent? In Florida when they did this all the home values went down again this year. Our taxes did not go down however ?:|

Enjoy your weekend,

Help With Daily Dis-comfort

This was a weird assessment ... she assessed my home not the house.  She took photos and commented on the tidiness and comfort of the home.  She was only her about 15 minutes and I did follow her around ... she even looked in my closets!!

I called the landlady later and told her about it and she said this was what the bank wanted and they paid for.  They just wanted to make sure the properties were being taken care of.  Weird.

No rent increase ... locked in on two year lease.
