Trying to ID this signature for Metalsmith Art Tray 1980 Thanks

I have a tray that has an artists signature on it.  I'm trying to ID it.. or get close to the spelling.
I would love help in two areas.  One is the signature and the other is what is the type of engraving or design in the metal called..

I can't decipher the signature, but the pattern appears to be the result of acid etching, like this:

I'm afraid I just can't make it out. Hopefully somebody else may come up with the answer.
