Kingdom of 2 Sicilies-Francesco I - 5 Tornesi-1827-Nr 530

2 May 2021: Greetings to all coin & token collectors, where-ever you might be.  Heron is pleased to report acquisition of a nice sized Copper coin issued by Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and dated 1827.   This is number 530 of the Central & Eastern Europa accumulation.

Note:  Coin is 31.5mm dia. & 2.5mm thick. Grades a couple of points

less than VF.  Nice copper color.

Obverse: At center is portrait of King Francesco I.

Legend: FRANC.I. D.G. REGNI. VTR. SIC. ET HIER REX.

English: Francesco I by the Grace of God, two Kingdoms

                                     of Sicily and Jerusalem King.

Reverse:                    Large Crown

                                         TORNESI

                                          CINQUE

                                               1827       (Date in Exergue).

Note: Francesco I was King from 1825 to 1830.

Note: Francesco I was Regent of Sicily 1806-1814

(He escaped Napoleon's Army and went to Sicily

where he was protected by the Navy of Gran

               Britannia).

Note: Heron found no information regarding mintage quantity.

Probably a low mintage because NGC has this coin value

at $300 U.S. in VF grade.

Note: This coin is NOT for sale.  It is 'reported' here as a fun acquisition

for sharing the fun of coin & token collecting with other coin and

             token collectors.

Note: A 5 pointed star is below the portrait of the King.

Note: Heron has searched the internet and found references to the

5 pointed star as a possible Mint Mark.

Note: Best research info is regarding the 10 Tornesi coin dated 1825.

This 10 Tornesi coin has a 5 'lobe' mark below King's portrait.

The source is:  Arsantiqva Moruzzi numismatics Roma.

This source stated that the coin was minted at Naples Mint.

Anyone having more mint information please share.

**Heron had never owned a coin issued by King Francesco of the

Kingdom of the 2 Sicilies.    When Heron purchased this coin it

was in a 'batch' of world coins and labeled 'Italy'.  Heron purchased

this nice Copper coin from a dealer of USA coins that was interested

in reducing his inventory quickly and so Heron received a nice

discount plus a coin of much interest.   It is always a good fun to

acquire a nice large Copper coin, no matter who 'issued' it.  And this

one fits in the accumulation nicely as number 530.  Yes, coin and

token collecting can be a lot of fun, even during a plague.**

Yes, umm, about that 515 'goal'.   Heron has decided that because

there is a goodly chanza that he will maybe survive another 4 to 5

months, that the goal would be tentatively increased to 555.   The

25 should be a fairly easy amount to add.   After that.... ?   Perhaps

(if time permits) adding some British Merchant Trade Tokens, or

add some paper money de Mexico, or add whatever can be 'found'.
