It's a trident... but for what?

This thing is 3 1/2 inches wide and 9 1/2 inches long.  The ferrule at the "butt" end is 1/2 inch, inside diameter.  It looks to be hand forged steel.  It's clearly a "trident" shape, but without barbs.  Could it be a cooking utensil?  A decorative item?  IMG_1505.JPGIMG_1506.JPGIMG_1507.JPGIMG_1509.JPG

Maybe an early frog gig? Most are barbed on the forks but an Google search of "Antique Frog Gigs" showed several early examples that were not.   https://www.google.com/search?q=antique+frog+gig&client=firefox-b-1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0a...:

Re: It's a trident... but for what?

It seems odd to have a tool made for use, like a  frog gig, be so decorative; none of the others in the link above were decorative.

Could be a decorative topper for an iron fence rail?  I can imagine such a fence, each rail topped with an item like this trident.  Or a topper for a steeple, or something similar.  At least it would keep pigeons off....

Not for a fence...--- Not a Frog Gig... Large size but small diameter of the shaft is confusing--Will give it some thought...---------God Bless,---Cowboy
