Help identifying antique chamberstick

Hello,

I picked this up at a flea market with a couple other items..It seems to have the "Stars of David " the letters anno and 1766...I assume that means..."year of our lord" I'm just wondering if anyone knows the approximate age and origin? And what value it may have.

The design, with the 6 pointed star, it typical of Morrocco, but I have no idea what the lettering and numbers refer to since they are not in the Islamic calendar.

Re: Help identifying antique chamberstick

The six pointed star and the date could be indicative of the Gregorian calendar.

Adopted sometime in the 1500s. Please follow this up and the way the piece is made. This might be a real treasure!

Thanks.....Yeah its a rather confusing piece to say the least.... Not sure where to go with it now though? Maybe an antique appraiser? not sure because I only paid a buck for it..

Frankly, I don't think that it is very old, judging by the lack of wear - especially on the underside.  If it was mine, I would list it on Ebay (starting it off at a low price, 9.99) and see what happens.  It does have a nice look and there are buyers of North African design.

You are probably right. Could be a bazaar item from the Middle East... a lot of things came back during WW2 I have a few brass and copper pieces. The weird thing is the lettering... but could have been a savvy craftsman! 🙂
