Any Idea What this German Piece is ?

It is Marked GESETZL. GESCHUTZT , It looks as if it could be the top to some sort of lantern, the cap comes off to put fluid in it, the clamps that hang down are 4" apart. Thanks.

What do you think the screww on top does? Other than that it looks like some type of lantern fixture. Good luck

I thought it looked like the top of a railroad lantern. I have one very much like it. The small lid makes me think it may have used kerosene. But after researching it, I came up empty. So now I'm not so sure.
