Help with describing necklace

Estate saw piece. I'm at a loss trying to identify these materials and even date the piece.
I know the large center head is Bakelite . I thought the green beads were glass, but looked closer and now I'm thinking clay? And the discs also, stone or shell? Are these trade beads?

Re: Help with describing necklace

What is it strung on?  And how does it close?  Looks like a 1970s craft piece to me.

Re: Help with describing necklace

Neat! It's strung on leather with no clasp. You'd have to knot it yourself to wear it

1970s for sure then.  Discs are pukka shells.

Re: Help with describing necklace

I don't think any of those are trade beads; I've never seen those colors and shapes among any trade beads I've seen. The green and black striped ones all look ceramic to me.

Re: Help with describing necklace

I had a necklace like this in the 1970's and mine was from Africa. The beads were glass, amber, carved ostrich shell and it was handstrung on leather.
