Hi,
Don't get this part of your statement "...says one quarter gold pride of elgin is this gold or gold plate ..."
Waltham 235 movement, size 12s, is highly unlikely to be placed in a gold case. This watch is made after 1906 Precious Metal Stampage Act. So, if gold, by law it has to be stamped and you'll see it. Look at inner back case for markings. A "14K" stamp should be readily visible
Most 235 movements at that size are in Nickel finish cases
Good Luck,

heres a tip for pocket watch cases to see if they are gold
if the back of the watch unscrews its not gold
it woud need to be a snap back or fold out to be gold
14k gold cases were never made with screwbacks.the only cases you might see are very special hamilton RR cases and they are super rare
wrist watch cases are made with screwbacks but not pocket watches

Go to pocketwatchdatabase.com. Enter the serial number stamped on the movement and you’ll get all of the specs for your Waltham.
