eBay Users’ Stamp Club meeting Dec 18-20 “We remember them”

*** eBay Users’ Stamp Club ***

Please join us on this thread for our monthly meeting on We remember them” from any time Friday Dec 18 till midnight PDT on Sunday Dec 20.

We remember them

  1. Take this opportunity to share memories (including scans of items) of philatelic friends who are no longer with us (including non-board friends and colleagues). I will post an incomplete list in the next post.
  2. This also a chance to remember those eBay IDs who used to post but are now MIA from the eBay boards. If anyone knows what they’re up to these days, let us know. I will post an incomplete list in the next post.
  3. *** All eUSC eBay IDs are requested to check in if at all possible. ***

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Anne will put up a display in the balcony of classic stamps previously shown by Bruce Campbell (classicbruce), some of which have been expertized by Bill Weiss (wrw1943).
  • I will be showing bridge and nude items that Bob Lodge (rclwa) has shared with me. Also some Bill Amonette color cards by year of the 3c 1851-57 issue.
  • There will be scans of bananas in the balcony, in remembrance of George Lipscomb (776).
  • These will be placed beside the chaise longue that sneeky37 (Dan) used to frequent in the balcony, in the hope that he’s well enough to join us.
  • A “shell your own peanuts” area will be set up. Peel extra for knuden (Knud-Erik), in case he drops in.

See you there!

Sheryll and Anne
eUSC 2014-15 Co-Presidents sheryll*net (Sheryll in OR) and abt1950 (Anne in NJ)

I guess I forgot to mention that the sheet is huge.  Takes up most of a large album page.

My as well try the C1 again.

Hi all!

I exchanged many stamps with classicbruce. He lived near where

I grew up, in Wheaton, MD, be at peace!.

Fellow members xzephyr (GB) is still buying on ebay;  Brian (helper of US Confederate material) has

not been around for years and I have lost contact with him( bad email addie); I hear from Vic Hoaradam

early once in awhile through Facebook: where's Iomoon?; and that great Chicagoan stamp12345 is MIA.

We do what we can to make this place an enjoyable community

Great to see you both, g.1 and Maaarten. Greg, what is it about Stampboards that keeps you there?

Maarten, what are you up to these days?

Bob Lodge was astounded when as_is talked about her collecting Scott by prime number, so he sent her this scan of the $2 Trans-Miss issue (Sc#293).

tallan.ent is alive and well, and has this web database of British postmarks.

Re: eBay Users’ Stamp Club meeting Dec 18-20 “We remember them”

I wonder if any one ever got anything from Bob's estate.  He wanted to leave something for some of us like Maarten and myself but have never heard anything.  That bridge block was top on my list.  Bob was such a nice guy as was Mendlebrot and they both were true genius's.   Sad to not have there company anymore.

Here are a few more names.  I don't hang out here much so a few might have posted lately.

Will Castilllio

Postalhyisteria

Tom Lowe Cultural Anthropology

Spain1850

Nowallp

Since it is the end of the year, it would be nice if people showed their favorite accusitions of the year.

Besides adding to my world collections I've also been adding to my U.S. collection which I had been ignoring for years.

The three below are probably my favorite finds of the year with the last one being my favorite all time stamp, nicely centered to.

Sorry, it looks like I nearly blew up the board and did not even get all of the stamps in the window.  Wish I could delete it and start over but no editing or delete functions I can see

Postalhysteria is still kicking, but I'm not sure if he's active on any of the forums.

It's nice to see Bob Lodge's name again.  He passed away the day before my youngest son was born.  My youngest son's middle name is Robert, and that is not entirely coincidental.

Knud-Erik - great to see you. I have you to thank for getting my feet wet at Delcampe.
And also for the eUSC items you sent me, and out of which I eventually made an exhibit!

classicbruce - was around to observe and take part in the seldom seen minimalist board drift phenomenon.

Bob Lodge has an entry in Wikipedia, mainly concerning the complex puzzles he crafted for Games magazine.
It lacks a photo, so here is one with Bob holding  the Eliza Dawson cover.

Paul (stamps123456789) is active on stampcommunity.org, I've seen Spain1850 recently also, probably on the same site.

Re: eBay Users’ Stamp Club meeting Dec 18-20 “We remember them”

tycophil was one of the first "behind the scenes" helpers who contacted me regarding dodgy sellers.

He had a dry sense of humor, and I appreciated his help.

Others who knew him better may like to comment.

Bob Lodge collected nudes as well as bridges. He showed us this lovely Goya cover.

Mitch - it is possibly that this cover was one  of the items Bob planned to bequeath to board members.

Here is another of his items, a Korean "peeping Toms" stamp.

Hi Everyone and nice to see so many! I have to confess I spend most of my time on FB and Stampboards as chat boards, but do still read the posts here.

FB with stamp groups does lend itself very well to chat groups and showing images .

Seasons greetings to everyoneSmiley Happy
