Help with Early Luxembourg-1

I'm getting ready to list some stamps on eBay and all I have is Scott catalogs.

Early Luxembourg is giving me fits.

I measure this stamp at perf 13 which Scott says is #37 and worth $600.

But Sc #47 with several different perfs (but not 13) is worth only $22.50.

I'm automatically suspicious when it looks like I've got the pricy version.

Any other way of ID'ing this stamp?

Lux 37?

One thing I can tell you is that if it is Luxembourg Scott Number 38(1878) used, it is selling for a fraction of the $600 Scott Catalogue Value especially since your copy is not in very good shape!

One Luxembourg #37 used recently sold on ebay for $32 although it is in worse shape than yours.

Scott's also points out that there are many forgeries in these early issues from Luxembourg as well as a myriad of fake cancellations.

I hope this helps!

Best Regards!!

Sorry I meant Scott Number 37 instead of Scott Number 38 in my initial posting.

Thanks for the reply.
From past experiences I know I'm not going to get much if any action unless I'm down around 10% of catalog.
And that how I'll offer it.
With luck I may get a couple bidders that will push it up to about 20%.

Hi Again Daveroo!

According to the Scott's 2013 Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue, one way of distinguishing Luxembourg Scott's #37 from Scott's #47 is that #37 has NARROW MARGINS and Scott's #47 has LARGE MARGINS.  In fact, Scott's goes on to say that Scott #37 with "Luxembourg print, the perforation is close to the border of the stamp."

Your stamp appears to be a #37 since it is perforation 13 coupled with narrow margins.

I hope this posting helps identify your stamp!

Best Regards!1

I just did a quick scan of the Priifix catalogue for Luxembourg. I couldn't find a 13 perf variety listed. Those sets were widely forged, so I suspect that's what you have. Also, the printing looks pretty blurry.

I have no doubt that it is a forgery.  It is very crude
