Welcome to the annual NFL pick'em contest! It's named in honor of its longtime
host, nanapong1 (Rick). Each week of the NFL season we pick who we think will win,
and the player with the most games correct is declared the winner for that week.
The player with the highest cumulative total of correct picks at the end of the
18-week regular season is declared that year's winner. All comers are welcome!
(Not only is it lots of fun, but it promotes interest in NFL football--therefore
stimulating sales of football equipment, jerseys, collector's items and other
related fee-generating merchandise.) So heeeere we go!
Nanapong Memorial NFL Pick'em 2023 RULES
---For fun and bragging rights only!
---The games will be posted each week, you can just copy/paste the list into
your reply, then boldface, italicize or underline your picks...or just list
your winners, whatever. But please make your choices very clear.
---Picks are straight up, not against the line (you just pick the winner, not the
points.)
---Your picks must be posted before the start time of each game, minutes count.
---After Monday Night Football, everyone's score, the week's winner and YTD
standings will be posted.
Give it a try! The more the merrier. You really don't need to know much about
football--the favorites are readily available, and they often win.
mountolimpus is the reigning champ...who will win this year??
I'll post Week 1 shortly.

DIVISIONAL ROUND 🏈
Houston at Baltimore...last-second switch; Ravens at home beat Texans 25-9 Week 1,
and Texans are 0-7 all-time in Baltimore...but, the last time
the Ravens won a postseason contest at home was January 2013
--and the Texans could be this year's 'Cinderella' team
Green Bay at San Francisco...Niners are nearly 100% healthy--only ex-Raider DE Clelin
Ferrell will miss game...(but then, the Packers could be
another Cinderella team!)
Tampa Bay at Detroit...Bucs were lucky to draw the Eagles during their tailspin
Kansas City at Buffalo...Week 14, Bills beat Chiefs 20-17 in KC when Chiefs' go-
ahead TD was called back on a penalty; Bills are now
without several players on defense...but, there's the
turnover differential: Chiefs are -11, Bills are +2 😬

The Divisional Round ends with both catzhave9lives and marknberk
getting all four games correct! Woo-hoo! Yay for us. wvmart and
mountolimpus were one back with three right. In the post-season
just-for-fun standings, wvm has a one-game lead over three others
with just three games left. That ridiculous Pro Bowl 'flag football'
game doesn't count. 😝

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS 🏈
Kansas City at Baltimore...halftime show: Jumbotron shows highlights of a panel
discussion featuring three clinical psychologists.
Topic: is it considered abnormal behavior for a 34-year-old
woman to sing syrupy pop tunes written for teenage girls?
Detroit at San Francisco...Lions' D was the only defense in 2023 to NOT allow a running
back over 70 yards in a game (Niners' RB McCaffrey did it
12 times this past season). SF had to come from behind to
beat the Packers; and since Deebo Samuel is kinda iffy,
...I'll pick the upset. I want to root for Goff, anyway.

First off...WELCOME to new players windhaze, and your friend! 😃
Conference Championship Sunday is now over, and catzhave9lives
was the only one to get both games correct! That's six games in a
row (including last week's contests)!! Four players got one right,
while two of us 🙄 totally whiffed. In the overall standings, catz
is now tied with wvmart for the lead--meaning that the Super Bowl
will determine the winner(s) of the post-season pick'em contest!

Everyone knows that it's the Kansas City Chiefs versus the San
Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, but I'll make an official post
in the next day or so anyway...I want to find out which team is
designated as the 'home team' and whatnot. The game is being
played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas two weeks from now.

SUPER BOWL LVIII
at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV
Sunday, Feb 11
San Francisco vs. Kansas City 3:30pm Pacific, 6:30 Eastern
...turns out that the Chiefs are the 'home team' this year, and have chosen to wear
their red home jerseys--which are the same ones they wore when they beat the
49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV. Not counting that game, the 49ers have had pretty
good luck in their white jerseys though...and over the last 19 Super Bowls, the team
in white jerseys is 16-3..! The Niners have opened as one-and-a-half pt. favorites.
