When someone at the PO grabs a handheld scanner to "help out," mistakes do happen. Most scanners at the counter are used for packages being picked up by customers and may not be set to the correct status.
Either call your local PO and complain -- and ask for immediate status updates -- or simply request e-mailed status updates via the USPS T&C screen. The information will be corrected.
Next time, when you drop off so many packages, present a SCAN form so that the clerk can scan it once to include all packages. Also make sure the scan is accurate before you leave.
