Found out today that many USPS employees including the postmaster at the local office do not seem to know that First Class is 16 ounces now, not 13. I was charged an additional 8.14 on a package that weighed 16 ounces when I already paid 4.23 for a first class label and I had to open a dispute today with them because now I am out 12.37 for a 16 ounce first class package which is ridiculous. If first class did not cover 16 ounces I would of used priority and paid 6.90 instead so this is a heads up to other sellers to watch for them overcharging us and that USPS has not even informed their staff that this changed to 16 ounces over a year ago.

Always have a copy of USPS Notice 123 with you.

It is still 13oz at the retail counter, so it seems your postmaster is just clueless about online postage.

How did this occur? At the counter? Or did you get charged online through their new Automated Package Verification?
The additional charge seems excessive regardless. The package was under 16 oz, correct?

No it's not.
If an item weighs 16 oz it mails at the 1 lb rate PM.
If is weighs 15.99 oz then it's FC.

I'm confused. Not sure who to believe.

Here's what you'll find in Notice 123:

Read the Domestic Mail Manual, page 15.
What I posted is correct.

PLTHTHTHTHTH! Many USPS employees think you need a customs form to ship to Hawaii or
Alaska even though THEY ARE PART OF THE UNITED STATES! I have also tried shipping to APO addresses on military bases and been told it will cost $90 and take 3 months to get there. (Nope just regular postage and takes about a week). I have had one ninny at my PO refuse my packages saying that the postage isnt shown on the label (doesnt need to be). Try getting a different clerk when you hear stupid things.

15.9 ounces can go FCP, 16 ounces has to go Priority or Parcel Select.
