I DO NOT DECIDE SHIPPING COSTS, eBAY DOES!?!?

I enter the weight and size of my items when I list them, eBay calculates the cost based on USPS rates. Why do buyers feel the need to give crummy star ratings on shipping costs? I swear to PETE if it's not free, they will complain. They leave glowing feedback but my shipping cost star ratings continue to decline. Passive-aggressive feedback IMO.

Re: I DO NOT DECIDE SHIPPING COSTS, eBAY DOES!?!?

If I were buying bottles of any kind being shipped USPS I would choose Priority even if I had other options. I would fear that a bottle going Ground Advantage would get all beat up and broken before it got to me.

Also, with Ground Advantage you have to provide the box to ship in where with Priority you can use their boxes so as a seller I would have to add the cost of that box into the price of the item. (I don't do dumpster diving for boxes ... did it once and the dumpster was full of mice).

I just feel that the shortest time a package can stay in the USPS shipping stream is less time for it to become damaged or lost.

Re: I DO NOT DECIDE SHIPPING COSTS, eBAY DOES!?!?

I would say I am skeptical. Its been happening to me for 4 months. Before this new run of cost adjustments where I had 7 I had 13 in the previous 4 months for no reason and no one at Fed Ex or Ebay could tell me why it was happening but it looked exactly what everyone is complaining about now. The previous years I had 0 I have changed nothing, same boxes, weigh everything, measure everything. I was never refunded for the previous 13 either.

Sure seems like a great way to get some extra revenue for Fed Ex though. Must really add up.

Re: I DO NOT DECIDE SHIPPING COSTS, eBAY DOES!?!?

I forget what marketing book or article I read it in, but basically anything you can do to psychologically boost a buyer's sense of urgency shopping online to 'Buy Now'/'get a straight shot' is best for faster, higher sales volume so, 'free shipping and handling' and only tax added  when it's time to pay reduces 'abandoned carts' and hesitancy to submit orders. I know, you'll need to compare total costs listed at time of posting an item for sale but thought to mention this when seeing your query since it reminded me of this info. known in online retail marketing.

Rolling costs of shipping and handling into the total price from what I recall increases sales volume by quite a bit. Some phrases to key in at Google  'online sales reducing abandoned carts' 'marketing and sales advantages of free shipping and handling' 'online retail and free shipping and handling'

Good luck!

Re: I DO NOT DECIDE SHIPPING COSTS, eBAY DOES!?!?

So the OP posting here about USPS rates and low star ratings is related to the FedEx problem?

For some......It seems wisdom has been chasing you, but you have always been faster.

Re: I DO NOT DECIDE SHIPPING COSTS, eBAY DOES!?!?

My 4.9 for shipping is always the lowest of my DSRs

I offer fixed price shipping to all US locations.

I track all shipments.

I have always has some buyers who ask can you just throw it into an envelope and put a stamp on it.

My answer is always an emphatic no.

Some do not hit my DSRs because they do not buy. That is fine with me. No stamps, no ESE.

Hey everyone, please note that due to a FedEx invoicing issue the week of March 25, 2024, some sellers were incorrectly charged for FedEx label adjustments. We apologize for the inconvenience, and eBay will refund these amounts within the next 5 business days.

Sorry for the hijack but it's been a week or two longer since we've posted about being back-charged for voided USPS labels. Is there any update on refunds for affected sellers?

My account hasn't been credited yet and AFAIK, others haven't been credited either. (I did file with USPS and never heard back. My theory is that it's an inside job perpetrated by a rogue USPS employee.)

Hey @thebargainprincess thanks for checking in.  I have not heard back on this yet, but I'll reach out again and see if we can get a response on it.
