I just found out as of June 23, 2019, any package over 1 cubic ft total has jumped in price, like doubled or more! Is there a recommended shipper that isn't charging ridiculous prices?

Depending on where you're shipping you have Fedex and UPS but that's it.

UPS has better rates for larger packages, USPS has better rates for smaller packages, lightweight items or items that fit into Flat Rate or Regional Rate USPS packaging. I do not recommend FedEx unless you have no choice.

If you still plan to ship via USPS and cannot decrease the size to below 1 cubit foot, the solution is to pay USPS's price or use an alternate shipping method. However, you will need to make that choice when setting up the listing.
I've heard that the dimensional weight price does not affect USPS ground shipments mailed in-person at the post office. Perhaps standing in line and paying retail may be an alternative.

Take a look at message 25, 27 , and 65 regarding retail ground.

Extend the handling time on these larger items to possibly result for an accumulation of packages to ship & reduce the number of trips you make to your postoffice to pay the lower retail rate.

Take a look at PirateShip.com. They use a different method than the eBay process to calculate shipping charges that is reportedly less costly.
