Disputing a FedEx smartpost overcharge

I'm wondering if anybody had any success with disputing a FedEx overcharge?

I shipped an item to a buyer on Oct 12, using the ebay shipping calculator. It was a light weight women jacket, the package weighted 1.3 lbs, dimension was 12" x 9" x 1". I was quoted for $8.45. Dropped off the package, delivered, done. Then I got a surprised bill - $39.21 charge for FedEx shipping fee. Please note the item was sold for $18, and I offered free shipping to the buyer.

I called eBay cs many times. The filed a dispute request to FedEx and it got denied. They mentioned dimensional weight. But the package was within normal size range and I just couldn't justify myself to this charge. I spoke to a supervisor earlier today and he's going to appeal this dispute request one more time.

I'm going to call ebay and protest this "glitch" - they have known about it and not corrected it, nor warned us.  Complete **bleep** if you ask me.

So I'm glad my customer got a great deal on shiping, but that is $15 out of my pocket thanks to ebay's lack of action on this.

Last I heard, Ebay has said that it will take up yo 60 days to fix the glitch. The best thing to do at this point is to remove FedEx from your shipping options altogether. SmartPost is really no longer a viable option for most items due to the new dimensional rate charges. The charges that you are seeing on your end are correct, but the buyers are still paying the old rate.

It's telling that eBay would tolerate behavior like this from one of its Sellers, FedEx, yet they would slam other small Sellers so hard it would make their future great grandchildren feel the pain.

Would eBay let you as a Seller debit a Buyer's eBay account 6 weeks after the transaction was completed to collect on an alleged upcharge that has no proof and no way to corroborate it?

Yes, FedEx is a Seller on eBay just like you and me.  They sell shipping services on eBay to eBay members, therefore they should be held to the same standards and follow the same rules as any other Seller selling anything else.

There must be a logical explanation for why eBay lets one of its Sellers (FedEx) abuse eBay members so egregiously.  I think I figured it out:
