Why are my purses not selling?

Hi, I recently started selling on eBay and I decided to start importing products. I have some purses and handbags that are unbranded but the prices I have them listed for are very low for the quality of the products. How is it possible that at least one hasn't sold yet?

I am talking about these items speciffically:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/112527042400?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

My goal is to become a power seller, or at least to have minumum 20 sales a week. What is wrong with my listings that you can guys can see?

Thank you very much for your time and help in advance.

I think likely because you can get them for less with free shipping from China. There seems to be a glut of the first one on eBay. It seems you are trying to compete with the Chinese market which is near impossible at their prices.

Haven't checked your listings, but since you say you are importing them, you might want to do a search to see if there are other listings with a lower price than yours.

Chinese sellers may be beating your price.

Stock pictures can also be a turn off.  Even if the item is new.

Don't know what RFID is, but if it is a brand, you need to be sure it is authentic.

First of all there are thousands of purses for sale on ebay - hundreds of times more than there are buyers of purses.  Hopefully, you haven't spent a lot of money on the inventory you are importing.

Secondly, I don't think the listings are the problem - it is your expectations.   I don't think your goal of being a powerseller or at least a minimum of 20 sales per week is either realistic or achievable with what you are selling.

It's great that you're asking for advice because that means you're committed to selling.

Now, here's one bit of bad news:  you need to read the requirements for listing photos.  They cannot contain text (other than small watermarks) and they cannot have borders.

http://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing/create-effective-listings/take-great-pictures.html

Your pictures are great otherwise.

You should probably avoid the word FAUX in your listing titles.  Even though you might not mean it in this way, buyers may think that you mean that the item is a knock-off.  For faux leather, you might want to use another similar term like Pleather (or whatever is applicable).

Remember that a lot of your buyers will be purchasing by cell phone--although it is very pretty, your description panel could be considered a little cluttered.    Parts of your description may not even appear.  There has been a lot of discussion on these boards about the Description Button and the cut-down version of descriptions (something like a dozen words or so).  Therefore, you should make full use of the Item Specifics to get in any details that you want people to notice.

All the information about sales, shipping, and returns should be vastly simplified.  Buyers just don't read it and may be put off by it.  A sentence or two is usually plenty.  And it's not a good idea to mention feedback at any time ever--in this case it sounds as though you're assuming you will be negged; don't risk putting that idea in a buyer's head.

Sounds like I'm saying a lot of "no" stuff but that's because I'm looking for details that might help you out.  Your listings are actually quite good and your prices seem reasonable.

One other suggestion:  list more.  List as much as you can.  The more items you have, the more likely you are to sell--especially if you focus on one or two categories because it will seem that you specialize.

Good luck with your sales!

ok, @vibetea

I went back into that listing to read more on it and I see that it is an identity stealing preventive measure.

Maybe somehow work that into the title as I don't know everyone will be aware of that is?  Just a thought.

Your biggest issue may be the price point; if they can get it cheaper elsewhere, they might, in spite of the issues they may have to deal with in buying from China.  Hopefully you researched items before purchase to see what the competition is, if any, sell through rate, price points, etc.  There may be buyers that will buy from you because they don't want to buy from China, but there are a LOT of purses for sale on ebay.  Thus you have a lot of competition.  If you are a new seller, you will have limits that will increase with sales.  You need to show that you can successfully complete sales.

You're trying to sell the same thing thousands of Asian sellers are, but they're selling it for less. Also, you might find out that on the bigger purses, you spend nearly as much shipping them as you make selling them

Another thing is that what you offer is fake leather and buyers can find pretty much the same thing in real leather, and mostly at lower cost as well with free shipping.

Ebay is a 'tough market' with competition that is unbelievable!  In order to make sales, you have to be very competitive in price and quality.  This means you have to be able to BUY your inventory for so very little that you can sell it here at a price that will actually... sell.

This is actually one of the hardest things for many would-be sellers to address:  If sellers in China can sell it here for less, you won't be able to compete with them successfully, so don't even try!  Don't go there!

All the fake leather purses puts your Coach under suspicion.

Importing stuff to sell is not a good idea if thousands of other are doing it.  Especially if they are doing it cheaper.  And I can buy a real leather wallet for what you are asking including shipping.

Sorry, OP, no one wants to hurt your feelings, but the truth can hurt.

Price is usually King.  That means since you have a lot of cheaper competition, it is going to be hard for you to get sales.  Hopefully you don't have a large inventory; but you might want to consider competition and prices before choosing inventory down the road.

I feel really badly that your prices are not competitive.  Maybe you can consider lowering them, but if other sellers are selling for far less than you are, and perhaps one of them is your supplier, there isn't much that can be done.

Good Luck to you, OP.

I see you are in Houston. How are you doing? Are you in the flood area?

A thought about your unbranded items: It can be very challenging to get eyes on listings that are not popular brands or unbranded. Keywords bring potential buyers to the products, so generic products can be hard to move, especially fashion items.

You have done a good job using your Item Specifics and Description. However, it is very difficult reading your descriptions using a yellow font on a black background. As another poster said, mobile phone shoppers make up a large part of the market and many will find that combination impossible to decipher. Black letters on a white background is the easiest to read, using a 12-14 point font.

Best wishes to you as you move forward. Check the boards often and there is always someone here to help.
