WHY? I have being eBaying for 25 years now. I only have 2700 FEEDBACKS a 100% But only 2700. That is about 1000 feedbacks a year. That is really not much. I live in a small resort community and 25 years ago the entre area closed down for the winter. Well there was this little start up company also started 25 years ago called eBay! A Idea for selling their PEZ dispensers. I'm sure taxes was not on their minds at the time and they may of just needed money.

So during the off season I started selling things around the house and it did help put food on the table and helped pay rent and for other goods and services as needed. So in 25 years I used the system only as needed.

I know there are other folks around the country that need and use this platform as well. And I hate to lose it or see it in ruins.

When you open the door and start to try and MICRO MANAGE it. It opens the door to a whole lot of problems THAT FOLKS AND THE IRS just don't need. AS SIMPLE AS CHASING CORRECT INFORMATION.

I was once told computers are only as smart as the as the folks entering the information.

It's easy to turn a hundred dollars into ten thousand dollars on paper by misplacing a DOT.

DO YOU REALLY TRUST eBay to provide CORRECT INFORMATION ? A friend of mine and fellow eBayer just went over numbers for sales on eBay. WHAT A MESS. They show BIN numbers $800 as SOLD PRICES when the final sale was only a few dollars THINK ABOUT THIS.

DELAYS DELAYS SHUT DOWN OF ACCOUNTS SLOW DOWNS OF TAX RETURNS And a whole army of control freaks running the show with no end in sight.

eBay will need COUSTOMER SERVICE SERVICE STAFF To RUN CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF to Control CUSTOMER SERVICE

The SAME with the IRS. We are talking about a major change that affects THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS by lowering this 20000 dollar standard AND THEN WHATS NEXT. Yard sales lawn mowing baby sitting. A good baby sitter can earn thousands.

Just think of you running a REAL BUSINESS But now because of this flood of nickel dime sales, things get so confused your own taxes become screwed up. DON'T THINK IT CAN HAPPEN.

Let me end by saying WE ALL SEE IT, AND HAVE SEEN IT. And this is at the 20000 level. If you have not seen it JUST WATCH THE NEWS.

It's almost like the dot com bubble. WORD WAS THEY WERE MAKING MILLIONS. When you peal back the covers. There really was no money.

END OF THIS STORY I will say this whole idea has made me really look at what I was doing on eBay as I pealed back the covers. There really is no money being made. It's a LOT OF WORK, HOWEVER IT WAS A NEEDED SOURCE OF NEGATIVE INCOME AS NEEDED OVER THE COURSE OF 25 years of a UP AND DOWN PEACE AND WAR DAYS ECONOMY.

A SINGLE eBayer STAFF IS YOU. YOU ARE THE > Manager, Product sourcing AD RESEARCH SPECIALIST, AD PRODUCER, THE WRITER, THE PHOTOGRAPHER, WAREHOUSING JUNK, THE COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT, PACKING & WRAPPING SPECIALIST, RSPONSIBLE FOR PACKING AND OFFICE SUPPLIES, BOX BUILDER, AND SHIPPER to SHIPPER RUNNER. RETURNS DEPARTMENT. And getting rid of over stock and failed product listings. And I'm sure you can add a few more into this mix. And you sold a $20.00 item YOU HOPE.

And lets add how many people you help to support who earn PAYCHECKS. As they say every action has a reaction.

AND NOW THIS POOR PERSON IS THE SUBJECT OF ADDED STRESS OF SELLING OVER $600 for a entire year.

I SAY RISE THE CEILING TO 25000,00 .

THANK YOU eBay for being there. As I needed you. Sorry but I do tell folks if you have A GOOD JOB with GOOD PEOPLE > KEEP IT! It's rough when your kicked to the streets.

Anyway that is the life MONEY and MAKING MONEY. GETTING BY Is just MAKING ENDS MEET I have seen both worlds.

If you aren't making a profit, your returns will show that because your expenses will exceed the proceeds. you won't owe money for your ebay sales! And if you're "just getting by" on your sales, you won't be paying taxes on those sales and maybe you might consider getting a better job outside of ebay.

False. There is no difference, if you were doing what you were supposed to have been doing all along. Now, I understand that probably most people don't declare their ebay income, but I doubt very many come on a public forum and admit it to everyone.

What defines a better job? I know people who work great lower paying jobs they find rewarding in many ways, and people who work high paying jobs they hate or can barely tolerate. When you say "you might consider getting a better job outside of ebay;" keep in mind it is not always the numbers on someone's paycheck or in their salary that makes it a "better job."

I could not agree more. But OP claims that in 25 years of hard work and intense stress, he has never made any money at all selling on eBay. None. Any job would beat that!

WOW a lot of good views posted here both pro and con I think back when I was 30 years old and how my views have changed over the years.

When viewed from the streets it's easy to cast stones BUT WHEN YOUR ON THE STREETS You have to learn to catch them. I just don't want to see more people forced onto those streets. EVEN YOU.

How about the guy that has a job making well into 6 figures ($150,000) and for kicks dabbles with eBay in their spare time? Let's say I'm selling $15,000 on eBay and make a net profit of $10,000.

On my $150,000 income I'm paying a bunch of taxes, am I entitled to make an addition $10,000 tax free for some reason (what would that reason be?) selling on eBay?.

Or how about the person who is collecting social assistance (welfare) because their income is extremely low, should they be able to sell $18,000 worth of stuff on eBay while continuing to receive welfare even though their actual net income is over the limit for social assistance?

because your confusing something that does not matter according to many. Turning into as a newer acceptable law and means of policing you. And using it for a reason to not calling it HARASSMENT Complete with extra fines. It's like the seatbelt law. LAW or just another reason to pull you over. SEARCH YOU AND if you get the right person abuse your RIGHTS & PRIVACY And even BULLY YOU! And wait for the new scams.

Don't know about those calling many here 'tax cheats' simply because we think the $20,000 to $600 change for issuing 1099's is nonsense... That's a pretty big blanket to lay on us.

I'm retired and one of the primary reasons I sell on eBay is because I can't golf 7 days a week 365 days a year. And I like keeping busy. It's hard to walk 9 when it's 115°.

I've kept excellent records on all sales, expenses, etc. since starting to sell here 12 years ago so I would know my tax lability and there quite simply isn't any. eBays 1099 which includes taxes paid by buyers and other nonsense would just complicate matter

Here's this years totals (with a week to go)...

Between my Soc. Sec., retirement income and eBay income there's not enough to cause me a tax liability so three years ago I stopped filing income tax but I've got all my numbers without a misleading 1099.

If the IRS wants to waste time on me I've all my records since 2009 and they'd be welcome to it... It would be quite a show.

The 1099K from ebay will not include sales taxes that were collected and forwarded to buyers' states.

FOLKS that is 67 TRILLION DOLLARS of your TAX DOLLARS. They don't know where it is. NO JOKE here add that to our 32 TRILLION DOLLAR Debt. THAT IS 97 TRILLION DOLLARS. WE OWE I WONDER WHOS POCKET THIS MONEY ENDED UP IN. I'm sure it's already been washed and converted. More about this is coming out so this is old news now. But you can expect to hear more next year. Seems that they are wanting to beat folks up for earning over 600 bucks is a JOKE I WONDER How many times will $600 will fit into 97 TRILLION DOLLARS or even just 32 TRILLION?
