Historically Sensitive Pictures

So I listed a very old Historically significant photo for sale that is of a very sensitive subject. About 2 hours after I posted it was removed for being offensive. While I do agree it is a sensitive subject, I also believe I'm being unfairly singled out.  There are literally hundreds of pictures of the same subject and some are Extremely Graphic in nature. They just get to stay up without issue?  No it's not porn or anything like that, just an old picture of fully clothed people. I would appeal the removal if I was able to do so but there is nothing on my notification that says I can do that.  Not a big deal but it just seems odd that my picture is not allowed to exist on this platform.

Re: Historically Sensitive Pictures

My recommendation: In your location there are some of the best ephemera and book shows in the country. The more sensitive nature of the photo, most likely the longer line of dealers and collectors that will eagerly snatch it up. Ironically institutional buyers are my best buyers of such material.

It's taboo with people who do not collect such items.

I do not list such items here, eBay has made its bed on the issue, their site their rules.

Not sure how they rationalize the selling of sports memorabilia pre breaking the color barrier. LOL, no I am not saying to ban anything but just pointing out the elephant in the room. Think of the money, fame, respect, generational financial security that was lost by extraordinary athletes who wanted to participate but couldn't. Ban Ruth, Cobb, Wagner...lol Not gonna happen, see what those items sell for....

I’d put my money on blackface.

Possibly. My guess is swastika related.

Re: Historically Sensitive Pictures

Hi @treasurewhisperer

Another seller posted about a similar situation recently.  Their listing of sheet music of an old Al Jolson song was removed.  Tucked away in the corner of the cover photo was a drawing of Jolson in blackface.

The seller couldn’t understand why they were singled out with removal when their were ‘hundreds of listings’ of actual photos of Jolson in blackface.

I was a bit incredulous … and did a search for ‘Al Jolson blackface photos’.  Six listings came up that matched the criteria.  I reported each of them ( choosing ‘Racially or ethnically offensive language and items’ under ‘Report this item’).  All were removed within 72 hours … the first, within an hour.

I am posting this to show that what feels like ‘singled out’ is more likely ‘randomly selected’ … assuming that your listing actually was for a banned item.
