Global Shipping Program

Is anybody else having consistent problems with the Global Shipping Program? I am beginning to think its a scam. More than half the packages that I have shipped mysteriously disappear  after they reach the hub in Kentucky. The international tracking number shows nothing. In the past, I have refunded the money to the buyer. But it has happened again and I am taking a stand.

I talked to a very helpful ebay customer rep who looked into the purchase and verified that  the tracking number I had entered showed that the package had arrived at the hub. She indicated that the problem was on the international leg of the journey. She referred the case to a "specialist". So far so good.

But today I got a message from the "specialist" that ebay has no record of the original tracking number and I need to provide it. What the hell? I mean, I have the receipt with the tracking number. But they shouldn't be throwing this back on me. Are they lying to me or what? Are they hoping I don't have the number so that they don't have to pay the refund? Is the "specialist" just to lazy to check on her own or is this a pattern of business that ebay is using to avoid liability? Something fishy going on!

Re: Global Shipping Program

Sellers are told to enter the tracking number when an inr is filed so it doesn't surprise me that they want you to provide the tracking number again. The left and right hands don't seem to work together so I would just submit the information that they've asked for.

Re: Global Shipping Program

I don't use the GSP because it's much less expensive, faster and easier to mail a package directly to my international customers.

However, when someone representing eBay asks you for information, just provide it. Keep it simple. That's how any legitimate organization does it. Even if eBay does have a tracking number, it might not be correct. Remember, you have the printed receipt -- they don't. They also ask you to GIVE information because they need to confirm that YOU are YOU and to prevent revealing details to the wrong person.

Re: Global Shipping Program

Like someone else said, you are better off shipping yourself. Wayover piced. Nothing but problems with GSP.  Even the name is wrong, the program isnt global! Lots of limitations and restrictions and then you have ebay involved with their  useless customer service for support.

My favorite one is when I sold a $250 antique Formosa Oolong Tea Crate,  and they destroyed it because you cant send formosa wood to Taiwan.  I got to keep my money and the buyer got their money back.

Re: Global Shipping Program

Ususally it is pretty cut and dry. You get it to Kentucky and your resposibility ends. If you prove by tracking it arrived at Kentucy then it is not your problem and there is no real need to talk to the buyer. They can file a Item Not Received and GSP can handle it.

The problem comes in when you try to figure out what is going on. There is no contact with GSP and eBay CS will tell you they will take care of it. It feels like driving in the dark. I have had a few and they took care of themselves if handles properly.

Re: Global Shipping Program

@beckbec40b4s

What was the international tracking number, and what country was the package being sent to?

I have had good luck being able to find tracking information from the international tracking number, although it does depend on which country to some extent.

You said that you "have the receipt" for the original tracking, when you shipped the package to Kentucky. Does that mean that you bought the label at the post office, instead of through eBay? If so, did you make sure that the GSP reference # was on the label, and that there was no chance of a typo or misreading the reference #?

If you bought the shipping label through eBay (which is highly recommended for GSP shipping) then the tracking number should be attached to the transaction automatically, so no reason for you to have to provide it.

Re: Global Shipping Program

Re tracking number: I will. Its just that when first they say they have it and then they don't, coupled with the fact that many of my items are not reaching their destination, I'm just wondering if this is incompetence or something intentional. Somebody is ending up with lots of free items. In the past I just refunded, because I am too busy to mess with it. Wondering why this is happening.

Re: Global Shipping Program

Mailed myself through the post office. Yes, I have the number on the receipt.  Nedd to check on the country. I've tried several websites to use the international tracking, but they didn't work.

Re: Global Shipping Program

As I said, I have been quite successful following the tracking information for GSP. If you provide their tracking number (usually starts with UP or something like that) I will see what I can do.

When you purchased the USPS shipping label at the post office, did you hand-write the address and reference number? Or did you copy them from eBay and print them with a printer?

And did you upload the tracking # to the transaction? (This should be done in both eBay and PayPal.)

Re: Global Shipping Program

GSP does not use regular tracking. They use different companies to deliver in other countries. If it gets to Kentucy then after thatit is not your problem. Tell the to file a INR claim.

Why are YOU refunding? If it made it to KY, you're done as a seller (as long as you have tracking and it shows "delivered"). It sounds like you're not using eBay shipping, that might be part of your problem.

Re: Global Shipping Program

You are right - not using ebay shipping. Shouldn't have made refunds...just wanted the problem to go away.
