Confused about active content removal

I'm confused and don't understand the results that I received from checking for active content. Below is the results:

Targets (1)

ItemID,Site
222533951507,US

Can someone explain this to me especially since this is behind the scenes (as they would say)? Is it an easy fix? I use a third party for templates because I do not do HMTL well anymore. The new template I'm using is suppose to be active content free now. I have over 300 listing to get done by end of this week with the new template.

Please, any consideration is highly appreciated.

I bulk scanned your listings and 111 have a link back to your store that is missing the target attribute. It's not a deal killer, but it is probably something you will want to repair.

Below is a snip of code showing your store link

We would like to thank you for visiting our<br>
Auctions and <a href="http://stores.ebay.com/ReBuy-It-Store/">Store</a>!

and the red is the part that is missing from your store link.

We would like to thank you for visiting our<br>
Auctions and <a href="http://stores.ebay.com/ReBuy-It-Store/" target="_blank">Store</a>!

Again, it's not a real killer unless you expect people to click that link. eBay wants our links to target a new blank window (open in a new window) because otherwise the link will try to open right there inside the description.  That will be messy, and most likely the description will go blank. Then the visitor will have difficulty backing out and may land back on the search page. Not a happy situation for anyone.

Fortunately, this will be easy to fix in bulk. Since you have under 200 listings and just a single line to fix, you might want to use eBay's own Bulk Edit And Replace (BEAR) tool and hit them all in one pass.  Follow the instructions for BEAR here.

Skip the scan at the top of that tutorial, since I've already set that up for you.

Instead scroll down and start at

Open Active Selling Page

and select ALL listings to bulk edit in BEAR.

You will want to search for this entire code in box#2 in the screenshot below

<a href="http://stores.ebay.com/ReBuy-It-Store/">

and replace it with this code in box#3 in the screenshot below.

<a href="http://stores.ebay.com/ReBuy-It-Store/" target="_blank">

Do that before you use any of your older listings to sell-similar.

Paging @shipscript who wrote the tool you're using to find it.

I used Bulk Active Content Editor for Ebay Listing. The results came back in Yellow.

Re: Confused about active content removal

Yes I know and that person is the one who wrote it.

Anything that's in the yellow column you really don't have to worry about so much as it's just a link with a "target" and that simply either won't work or won't be shown when they delete active content.

Do you use a 3rd party listing tool (like Inkfrog or Auctiva) or do you have a visitor counter?

That may be the cause of the yellow results

If you want to see what is causing it on your listings, click the EXAMINE box on the right hand side of your results.

Re: Confused about active content removal

Thank you so much for your consideration and help. I do use Auctiva. I closed my store on Ebay a month ago for about 3 weeks (took all listing down) to do all the changes and make it mobile ready. Since I am the only one doing the computer listing and each listing is different. I only was able to get a little over 100 put back on. To find out the other day that now the template I was using is longer available and I had to select another.

With that being said,  now I know how to fix the error (Again, Thank You) I will change it for all the ones going forward. I still have 200+ to put back up. I will wait for the other listings that will be needing to be relisted before making the changes since I have to change the template anyhow.

Such a frustrating time, but with every obstacle or challenge there is a learning experience for a brighter tomorrow.

Again, than you everyone for all your consideration and suggestions.

Re: Confused about active content removal

I just wanted to make a comment re BEAR....Bulk edit will bog down and error if you try to do too many at once. Do 25-50 at a time to prevent "sit-n-spin" 🙂
