Motorcyclists Roll to Soldiers' Funerals
By RYAN LENZ

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (Feb. 21) - Wearing vests covered in military patches, a band of motorcyclists rolls around the country from one soldier's funeral to another, cheering respectfully to overshadow jeers from church protesters.

The rest of the story, in post 2, so ya don't have to scroll by a long post!

Here's a few pictures from the Welcome Home mission downin LeMars Iowa this evening. The OFficers, NCO's and soldiers of TRP C, 1st Squadron 113th Cavalry returned to Ft McCoy WI and arrived by bus in Worthington MN at about 8:10. Iowa State Partol picked up the escort 10 miles south at the MN/IA border. Amazingly with the 32 degree temps there were 26 bikes in attendance, along with numerous cars and vans.

Streets in all the small towns we passed through were lined with people, I think every fire department along the way was out with trucks and flags and there were yellow ribbons around every tree in LeMars.

Not many pictures turned out due to lighting, but here's a few.

Staging in Worthington...

Arriving in LeMars...

A few of the dedicated (and frozen) bikers...

Inside the school for the Welcome Home ceremony...

Time to invest in that heated clothing, n*s!

There were at least two soldiers from the NW Iowa area that didn't make it. BJ Luesink, Sioux Center, and William E. Thorne, Rock Valley. May God bless their memories and continue to bring comfort to their families.

Another soldier from that unit, SSG Anderson, was killed in a car accident a few months after returning home.

Yes, and SGT Dan Sesker who entered Fiddler's Green on April 6, 2006, he was from the 113th Cav. He's the only one they lost, thankfully. There were two men already home on medical, they arranged a ride for them to Wgtn to meet up with the rest of the unit on the buses and share in the welcome home festivities.

From the Welcome Home bullitin they handed out...

Unit History

Troop C, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry, augmented by Troops A, B, and Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry; 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry; and 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery was mobilized under partial mobilization callup on July 7, 2005. These 155 Soldiers were mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07. Troop C conducted mobilization training at Fort Lewis, Wash. from July - October and entered the Iraqi theater of operations on October 30, 2005. Troop C was based out of Camp Ashraf, Forward Operating Base Grizzly in the Diyala Province (approximately 30 miles north of Baghdad) where they conducted security escort missions to Baghdad and Logistic Support Area Anaconda, IED route clearance, and security presence patrols. In addition, the unit maintained numerous static fixed site security positions as well as security escorts for the State Department.

The unit accomplished numerous tasks while in theater. A few of the highlights are:

1. The Troop condudcted more than 3000 missions.

2. Drove in excess of 150,000 miles on treacherous Iraqui roads.

3. The unit sustained more than 50 IED strikes.

4. Discovered more than 25 IED's prior to detonation.
5. Exclusively provided security escorts for water pump installation to provide improved irrigation and drinking water to the local Iraqi population.

6. The unit received more that 60 Combat Action Badges, more than 10 Purple Hearts and 20 Bronze Star medals.

7. Elements of Troop C provided immediate first aid and security for the attack on the CBS News crew on May 29,2006, and provided lifesaving medical care to CBS reporter Kim Dozier.

That was a great link, crispyperson. Thank you for your participation. It sure portrays what can happen behind the scenes preparing for what should be a simple funeral service.

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.

Know the l! ine has held, your job is done.

Rest easy, sleep well.

Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.

Peace, peace, and farewell...

Readers may be interested to know that the wreaths on the gravestones, every X-mas -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well.. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

You can make all the jokes you want about Swedes and Norwegians and Danes living in Minnesota...

28 degrees, snow flurries, 25 mph wind. And 80 PGR's showed up on a Wednesday morning, to honor another Minnesota Fallen Hero. 23 rode their bikes. One rode 200 miles, from Mpls to the far western Mn town of Beardsley.
