Any keywords on this? To me it looks like it should be a flower, maybe dandelion??? It is 1 7/8" round and the doming is about 1".

It doesn't make me think of a flower.

Would it be japanned? Domed, enamel unusual?

In form it looks most like a section of a sweet gum ball from the Styraciflua tree. I can't account for the artist's choice of colors though.

My very first thought (before Sea Anemone) was that it reminds me of images in large scale Atomic Era Sculptures or maybe Free Standing Mobiles, the kind that when touched vibrate like tuning forks?
Ya, I'm weird

Aw hail, I meant Liquidambar, not styraciflua... The former being its generic name. "Monkeyballs," as we used to call them. Pretty much ubiquitous tree everywhere from the mid Atlantic seabord to the midwest and probably beyond. Once they've been sitting under the tree jostling around one another for long enough they lose their spikes and look just like this.

I had to go look them up
Got Fauna before I added Liquidambar LOL
But it does start the mind thinking, Brooch could also look like a green Pinecone.

I have a very similar pin (don't know where!) that's white painted metal with red. I thought of it as a flower.

I went to an exhibit of Madeline Albright's "Read My Pins" and saw this dandelion pin and thought of your dandelion pin question. I can see the similarities. If this exhibit ever comes to a museum near you - go see it. the pins she used during her administration were spectacular. She was a joolie just like us!! I took so many pictures and I'd be happy to share some with you. There were over 300 beauties on exhibit.
