Help Identifying this large rock / mineral

I have no idea what this rock is. I thought it might be calcite.

Anyone know?

Pretty sure not Calcite. I have a lamp made out of this but the name is MIA. I think it is the same as in the drained Mexico Cave.

Re: Help Identifying this large rock / mineral

I think once again OCN is correct, my handy little book points to Rough Satin Spar which is Gypsum that could be cut and polished into cabochons.. It comes in different colors or shades.. Calcite is more clear and not as fiborous..

Re: Help Identifying this large rock / mineral

While checking for the name I learned that Alabaster is a Gypsum. I had not known that but when I read it I realized just how much that made perfect sense since the characteristics seem to be visually the same 🙂

If you're not selling it, put it somewhere it will be in the daylight.  Spar gypsum seems to glow when the light can go through it.
