Re: Need help indentifying possible Native American Indian decorated clay vessel

This is contemporary Mexican pottery, from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Chihuahua.

It was made by Santos Ortiz and Berta Chacon, husband and wife, who sign pots they both work on with the combined first letters of their names, "SanBe."

Made only since the late 1970s, Mata Ortiz pottery is not Native American, none of the potters claim any tribal affiliation.  It is officially recognized by the Mexican government as contemporary Mexican Art Pottery.
