How to describe these watercolors? Anyone familiar with traditional Asian villager attire?

I'm really in love with these watercolors but alas I need to get them sold as finances demand. These appear to be a combination of watercolor and pencil (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I'd really like to nail down the region/time period based on the clothing and accessories the people are wearing. Any thoughts on this?

Charming.  They appear to be Japanese.  Here is a woman from the book "The History of Women's Costume in Japan" in similiar dress.
