HELP Identifying a Brass Item

So I have looked high and low and have NO idea what this is or was used for.  Two pieces of heavy brass with grooved on top and bottom so they fit together and a divot in the middle on each site.  Weighs 3 lbs. 7 oz. and is 9 1/4".  No marks that I could find.  The sticker residue is from the auction house. IMG_9451.jpgIMG_9452.jpgIMG_9453.jpgIMG_9454.JPG" diameter.

Re: HELP Identifying a Brass Item

Reminds me of the brass trays used on old scales. I don't know if they are.

It looks like it but would they be grooves to fit together?

Re: HELP Identifying a Brass Item

Scale trays normally aren't that heavy or large.  Assuming the 9" is the diameter.

Re: HELP Identifying a Brass Item

In the image where I see the sticker residue, am I also seeing an incised maker's mark in this residue area?

Re: HELP Identifying a Brass Item

Thank you for the reply but I've double checked and there is nothing there but sticky residue.  This one has us all stumped.  I do not even know what keywords to use to search anymore.
