29 Nov 2017 - Greetings fellow coin collectors. In the on-going effort to keep this great coin chatting bjord alive, Heron 'reports' acquisition of Europa Central & Oest coin number 345. Heron is hoping that this coin chatting place will stay 'alive' at least until nummer 350 is reported! This neat coin was recently acquired from a local coin dealer. A good guy.
The Coin: Mantua Municipio Castiglione delle Stiviere Parpagliola Billion 22mm-
KM78 - coin non-dated. Issued between 1678 and 1680.
Note: This is a 'new' denomination for Heron's denominations list.
Obverse: At center is a 'crowned' CG monogram.
Legend: Princ. Castillionis EC.
Reverse: Full Length Facing Figure of Sankt Aloysius [Luigi in Italiano].
Legend: B. Aloysius Gon Patr Cast.
Some History:
1530 - First Duke of Mantua was Federico II Gonzaga.
1568 - Sankt Luigi was born in Castiglione. A son of Ferrante Gonzaga Marchese
di Castiglione. [Luigi was not a Sankt until later].
1591 - Luigi crosses the great divide. Caught the plague whilst helping folks.
1678-1680- Area ruled by Carlo Gonzaga. As Principe.
1706- Area invaded & occupied by French Army.
1708- Area was taken by those Happy Hapsburgers.
2001- Castiglione received honorary title of City by Presidential Decree.
Note: Castigilione is a Municipio of Province Mantua.

As we walk the 'Pathway to the Celestial Heavens' we have a lot of fun collecting various coins from 'obscure' places of Central & Oest Europa. The 'supply' is increasing nicely.
